Janice had heard the softness in her daughter’s voice. It gave her the courage to continue. “I do. I am so sorry we’ve put you through so much. I had to leave Bette and it had nothing at all to do with you. I had to leave to save my myself. I really think that if I would have stayed, I’d have died at my own hand. I was that depressed and miserable.
“But none of this was ever your fault. None of it. And I’m sorry I had to leave you with your father. He loves you. You are his pride and joy. But Melvin is Melvin. Always has been and always will be. I know you need more support than what he’s able to give. I’m sorry I wasn’t there to give it. But I’m here now and I’m not going anywhere.”
Bette wiped at the tear that had slipped from her right eye. Her heart was melting. These were the words she’d waited to hear. The unconditional love she’d ached for. “You mean that? You really mean that?”
“I really do.”, Janice replied.
Tina kissed her lover’s left shoulder blade and held on tighter.
“Are you okay with me being a…a . . . “, Bette stuttered. She couldn’t quite bring herself to use the l-word. It was one thing to fling it out in the midst of a heated battle, yet quite another set of boundaries for this calm and loving discussion.
“Bette, you’re my baby. My only baby. I know you. I know you’re not frivolous. This is such a difficult path to take that I know you must have had some very significant struggles to realize who you are. To be comfortable enough to tell your father about it. I just want you to be happy. If you’re happy and healthy, I can’t help but be okay.”
This was overwhelming for the dark-haired young woman, more tears slid down her cheeks.
Janice could hear the emotion and continued to speak.
“I will tell you, I had a struggle of my own. Your father called me early on Saturday morning, the sun wasn’t even up yet. He told me that you were living ‘a life of sin’. He told me that you and Tina had deceived him. We didn’t really talk, he just wanted to make sure that I knew what a failure I was. He wanted me to understand that your lifestyle choice was my fault. The conversation was over in a few minutes, but I couldn’t sleep. I was up for the rest of the day.

That’s awesome. But Tina needs to come out with her parents one day. But I think Tina will be more determined and mentally stronger than Bette.

Finally some good news. I hope Janice is right that Melvin won’t go off all crazy and tell Tina’s family what is going on; but knowing Melvin he’ll try and blame Tina for seducing Bette and tell her parents that their child ruined his child’s future (uh oh). I have to admit that i had to go back and read the chapetrs w/ Karen b/c i totally forgot about her role in the story. Keep the chapters coming, please!

Things aren’t 100%, but they are getting better. And Janice shouldn’t feel bad about not seeing that B&T’s relationship was deeper than friends or that Karen is gay. Hell I’m gay and I have rotten gaydar when it comes to women. lol Oh, and all hail Birkenstocks!

That was great, but for some reason I feel like there’s definate drama brewing, thanks to Melvin Porter. Don’t know about anyone else, but I can really do without all the intense drama, but such is life! Post soon, please.
rock out. i haven’t been to this site in months, and then i come back out of a strange sense of nostalgia, checking up on my favorite writers, and behold – here you are again. six months is a long time away, but my story has been stagnant for several months now too, so no worries. plus i don’t think nearly as many people remember me as well as they do you. getting back on subject, though. it’s good to see you back, and i’ll visit the site more frequently now that i have something to look forward to.
And I think Aunt Karen would be happy to help with school payments too! Awesome chapter – so much emotion.

I hope Janice turns out to be a true mom and friend to Bette, despite Melvin’s ignorance. And for Tina’s sanity, I hope Melvin keeps his mouth closed, but if he is into the blame game, he may call them up and tell Tina’s parents. Anyway, so glad you are back updating this story.

Thank you for having Bette’s mom step up and be there for her kid unlike someone who’s name will never ever be mentioned by me again. Its bound to come out about Tina based merely on the fact that they have been open with each other and everyone else on campus. I just hope, and I feel this will always be Tina’s greatest struggle, that you have a back up plan for her some where in that marvellous writers head of yours…I would suggest as a humble reader that Tina look in to other ways to safe guard her position at the school for if and when her parents find out. Alphaville maybe?

MTS, Wonderful to see how much Bette has grown in the last few chapters. She had the courage to stand up to her father even at the cost of their relationship; she went to face her financial issue and found support and solice there; she has opened up a little to her mother and shown her vulnerability and finally she has return to her true love and stated that whatever the future brings it will be easier to face as they will confront it together; united. I do get the sense that Melvin is a hurt anaimal and liable to do anything to lash out at Bette. Even telling Tina’s parents or using this as leverage ro force Bette in to following his bidding. I know that given your talent and genius thhis will continue to be one helluva ride so safety belt clicked and ready for launch. You are so skillful in conveying these massive emotions and storylines that I heartily applaud you. Thank you for this fantastic fan fic. Your Loyal Fan.

I went back and re-read some of your earlier chapters, the ones that you specified in this chapter. It is easy to see how and why Janice ran from Melvin. Hopefully now she can be there for Bette. She is taking that step towards her daughter. It would be nice if Melvin did keep his mouth shut. Sometimes it is in the best interest of a child never to tell their parents. Some believe that it is necessary but in a lot of cases it only causes pain. Great post and please post soon.

I’ve tried to PM you about a month ago, but I’m not sure it succeed, the side wouldn’t send my message…hmmm. Well enough about me, this is about you and the amazing B&T world you’ve created.
