The Roommates – Fast Forward to 2019: Chapter 37
Carmen squeezed Bette’s hand. Friends or not, she was proud of having Bette on her arm. The gallery owner had been a wise choice. She was cultured and classy. Without Carmen even telling her, Bette had dressed perfectly for the occasion. Her dark red dress was beautiful, and Bette’s makeup was flawless. She loved making Bette laugh and so far, their evening had been filled with joy.
“Can we go to the patio?” Bette whispered to her.
Carmen grinned. Bette was like a child sometimes. She’d been excited to look out over the ocean and to see the green and red pool lights up close. Carmen nodded. “Let’s go.”
Bette grabbed her hand and they started heading up a wide, white quartz staircase. The next floor up led to the patio. As they reached the top of the stairs, the music changed to “He’s the Jolly Good Fellow” and someone began to speak into a microphone, over the music.
The duo looked over the chest-high, white quartz balustrade of the second floor and gazed down. There was a white piano placed on a large, red rug. A tuxedo-clad pianist sat at the piano, his fingers moving along the keys. A large, well-decorated Christmas tree stood in the center of the room, near the piano. It partially blocked their view of the guests.
“This place is amazing,” Bette whispered.
“It is,” said Carmen, her dark brown eyes fixed on the scene.
A man’s voice continued to speak over the microphone. The music quietly faded away until the piano player stopped. The speaker was hidden by the tree.
“….to thank our hostess. Mrs. Peggy Peabody is a one-of-a-kind gift to the world and I’m excited to know her. She is kind and generous and throws the best parties!”
Other guests laughed and cheered.
“Thank you so much for your business, Mrs. Peabody. My son-in-law, Henry, would like a few words.”
The sound of a microphone exchanging hands could be heard and Bette tugged on Carmen’s hand. She smiled with wide eyes like a kid whose mother had promised fun but who had stayed on the phone talking with a friend just minutes too long.
Carmen nodded. “Okay, let’s go.”

WhooHoo! Yes, time to confront her. Make sure she notices Carman when you get back in the limo!

So the cat is out of the bag. Wow. Will Bette confront Tina? I really hope so. Confronting but not shutting down please. Bette needs to hear everything, Tina needs to tell everything. They have to have an honest conversation about their relationship and the roadblocks in their way.
But I’m worried that they stopped in front of Tina’s house and Henry or worse Dad Emperor Kennard might be near. This conversation needs to happen somewhere safe.
Carmen proves to be a good friend. She saved Bette from falling back deep into drugs and alcohol. This was clearly Mrs. Bette Hyde rearing its ugly head.
Great that you introduced Peggy to your story. Gotta love her. Interesting that a sophisticated, gay-friendly hasbian as Peggy would have some business with Mr. K..
Thanks for these gut-wrenching ten pages. Stopping now feels like my ebook shutting down due to low battery when the protagonists are about to kiss for the first time ;-)
Well, I’m off now, maybe if I’m lucky you’ll have another treat i. e. chapter for us when I wake up in the morning. Okay, I’m greedy, sorry.
G’night

In long term i’m think Tina obviously needs to divorce with Henry – she’s not happy with him. But about Bette – i don’t think that this Tina needs this Bette in long term. After first lust and impression will go, what they have common? Tina – 35 years old powerful movie mogul, and Bette – well she still 19 old student.
This Bette to immature, too weak too be with Cris Anderson, or with Cris Kennard. This Bette can’t do anything alone, she always needs someone support – Dana, Tina, Alice and now Carmen. And i really don’t think that this Bette now needs girlfriend, she more needs nanny now. Nanny and therapy not only from rape, but also from alcohol and drugs.

Well in honesty I can’t say I enjoyed the post can I? :-(
However, thanks for the post and please post again soon.
I think it’s time for a stronger Bette, can I hope?
Also Tina needs to come clean and explain to Bette any plan she has, any chance?
Definitely need a Tibette force going forward please.
Love your writing, as ever:-)

I’m glad Bette saw things with her own eyes than hearing it from Alice. I hope Bette will give Tina the chance to tell everything and that Tina will come totally clean with her.
