    Bette Porter Residence

Sidney answered the home phone. “Miss Porter?”

    “Yes, this is she.”

“Hello. My name is officer Adam Hwang with the LAPD Burglary and Robbery Division.”

    “What’s going on?”

“I’m here at The Porter Gallery and there’s been a break-in. Are you able to come and assess the scene so that we can finalize our police report? Your insurance company will need this,” he said.

Kit was watching her sister-in-law and saw the distress in her face. She moved, standing close by.

    “What? What happened?”

“We’re not really sure. But there are few broken windows, it looks like maybe some of the art work was taken. The alarm company has been calling but they can’t seem to get anyone on the phone,” said officer Hwang.

“Dammit. Okay yeah, I’ll be there. Just give me few minutes.”

“I hate to spring this on you on Christmas Eve. But the faster we do this, the quicker you can get back to enjoying the holiday,” he said.

    “Thanks. I’ll be there soon.”

Sidney hung up the phone, shaking her head. “The gallery was broken into.”

    “What?” asked Kit.

Sidney nodded. “Yeah. The alarm company said they’ve been calling. Maybe they were calling Bette’s cell and couldn’t get through. I need to go down and take a look around and get the police report.”

“Oh no! Did they say what happened?”

“Not really. Just that a few windows were broken. Maybe some of the artwork was taken,” Sidney replied, as she moved to put on her shoes.

“I’m gonna ride with you. Is that okay?”

“Of course. Thank you. I have been itching to drive Bette’s Jag anyway. She never lets me touch her car,” said Sidney.

Kit put on her shoes as well.

“Where you going Mom?” asked Dylan.

Kit didn’t want to upset him. “We’re just running an errand. We’ll be right back.”

He looked at her like he didn’t believe her.
Sidney’s older brother, Jack stood by them. “Hey Dylan, are you going to play Uno with us or what?”

    1. Is this dad’s doing? Kit and Sidney being mistaken by his thugs for Bette and Tina? Tina’s car in the front of Bette’s house made them think she’s at Bette’s?

Drama! Things are coming thick and fast. And I have to go to work and can’t read more. This is going to be a long day.

Thanks for your multi-chapter posting, MTS. Gonna finish reading tonight.
