The Roommates – Fast Forward to 2019: Chapter 6

“Don’t apologize, T.”
There was a building tempo in their conversation that was putting Tina on edge. Bette’s voice was like a drug. Tina was intoxicated. “Meet me at 6:30,” said Bette.
“Tomorrow is Saturday. You want to meet for breakfast at 6:30?” asked Tina.
Bette exhaled. “Tina, I want to see you. I want to see you as soon as possible.”
“Okay. 6:30. Where?”
“There’s a place near here. It opens at 6 am on Saturdays. It’s called The Planet. I’ll text you the address. You promise to meet me?” asked Bette.
Tina felt warm and loving, the same way she felt when she’d had too much to drink. “I promise.”
“Good. I don’t think I’ll sleep.”
“You are such a flirt,” said Tina.
Bette sounded genuinely surprised. “I’m not flirting, Tina. I just – – – I really want to see you. I feel – – – drawn to you. I’d like to get to know you.”
“Oh. I’m sorry. I didn’t mean to imply – – -,” Tina began.
“T, don’t apologize.”
“Okay, I won’t apologize.”
“How did the evening go? You had an event to go to, right?” asked Bette.
“It’s still going. My parents are celebrating their 40th wedding anniversary.”
“It’s still going? Tina, I don’t want to keep you.”
Tina swallowed, her leg still bouncing. “I didn’t want to miss your call. I stepped away.”
Bette was quiet then.
“Bette?”
“I’m here,” Bette whispered.
“What’s wrong?”
“Nothing. You’re very sweet, Tina. You didn’t have to do that.”
Tina tried to picture what Bette would look like at that moment. “I wanted to talk to you. I’m glad I did.”
Bette sighed heavily. “Don’t disappoint them, Tina. Not for me. Besides, I get to see you at 6:30 in the morning. That’s about 8 and a half hours from now.”
The words rushed out of Tina’s mouth without her permission. They bypassed her internal filter. “I don’t want you to go.”
“T, I promise you, I’m not going anywhere. I’ll text you the address for The Planet. Meet me there, okay?”
Tina sighed. “Okay. I’ll meet you there.”
“I’m gonna go now. I’ll see you soon.”
Tina swallowed thickly. “I’ll see you soon. Bye, Bette.”
“Bye, T.”
Bette hung up and Tina sat back on the couch. The end of the call seemed to break some magical spell and suddenly she became aware of her surroundings again. She closed her eyes, relishing the sound of Bette’s voice in her memory. She stood and straightened her gown and then braced herself to return to the party.

I’m glad that you gave to us Tina’s side of story. But i really confused – Tina married to Henry? In second time? What happen to Eric?
Great to get to know this Tina. Learing about her life makes me think that Bette can not only improve the situation of “Bette 2019” but of “Tina 2019” as well.
I love that Tina already feels some kind of connection to Bette.
Looking forward to their breakfast meeting :-)
This 2019 update to RoomMates has been an intriguing saga for sure. I’m trying to fill in the blanks and have come to the conclusion that the young Tina was not able to bring herself to tell her parents about Bette and their relationship. So her life continued along the expected path of hetero script. Right????????. and so did Bette’s as she chose Sidney to marry.
Cant figure out in my tale what happened to Eric though????. In my story he had to have made a play for Tina by threatening to “out” her to her parents but then ????? this is where my 2005 version falls apart. Auh well, that’s why U’re the Author ????and me the neurotic reader ????????????
Uhmm it seem Tina and Henry are playing some kind of charades with the family.. they all seem to be wearing a mask at this party… did get to meet sissy but she must be a pill or knows Tina’s secrets. Great phone call giving Tina a bit of a slow burn, my favorite way to have her in. Lol.. thank you
In 2019, Bette and Tina meet for the first time when they bump into each other on the street. This is not a continuation of 2005 but a completely new reality. Bette has transferred from the 2005 reality to the 2019 reality with the memories of 2005. Its going to make Bette look like a lunatic if she explains how she knows Tina’s nickname or even why she is so attracted to Tina. Her best bet is to face today’s reality and figure out how to get Tina into her life. In the meantime, she is still married and so is Tina. This has become a very intriguing story.
Good writing….can’t wait for more.
So intrigued now with this story!
Thanks for posting regularly, loving it!
