But she quickly felt Bette’s hands slip effortlessly over her hips, keeping her nice and close as the music played on. “Come on … loosen your hips.”

“My hips are loose enough,” Tina laughed back, smiling at their sexual chemistry. “That isn’t the problem …”

Angelica walked into the house to hear eighties music playing loudly, and turned to see the kitchen a complete mess – her moms dancing in the middle of it all – pulled slightly apart after hearing the door. But still, they were dancing close, and laughing with each other.

“You guys … are so weird,” she said, trying not to laugh as she shielded her eyes and tucked her thumb under the strap of her backpack – biting her cheek so as not to give herself away. Her mother and Bette could be quite hilariously ridiculous at times.

“Oh, I was just teaching your mother how to dance,” Bette chuckled, spinning Tina out from her as they both giggled.

Angelica just smiled, sighed, and shook her head. “Right …”

“And I’m teaching her how to cook!” Tina laughed, just as Bette caught her wrist, and pulled her in again, pinching Tina’s sides to make her laugh again.

They were still dancing to the same song, moving their bodies – but innocently, because Angelica was still there among them.

“You guys have finally lost your minds,” Angelica insisted, reaching over to the counter to grab a bowl of grapes just as Tina tries to pull her in and dance with them. “Ugh! No thank you!” Angelica laughed, “I’m going to Olivia’s till dinner.”

“No!” Tina whined, reaching over to her daughter, but to no avail.

Angelica had laughed her way out of the house, and the happy couple were alone once again – for the time being. Bette’s arm moved slowly up Tina’s arm from her wrist.

As the song was coming to a close, Bette brought Tina close again with both hands on her hips, and they rocked together gently. It was still just as playful, but there was also a hint of the intimacy they had always shared.

Tina felt flush, trying not to admit the effect it was having on her. Bette always knew just how to dance with her. “Stop … we need to stop or we won’t get anything cooked for dinner.”

“Just a little bit longer,” Bette smirked – a play on another Dirty Dancing single. It was a song that she knew Tina liked. “When you’re giving me those … hungry eyes …”

“Angie could come back,” Tina shushed her, swatting Bette with a nearby oven mitt as she tore herself away and tucked her hair behind her ears. “Okay … no more dancing.”

“Or sex?” Bette whispered – both a tease and a legitimate desire.

Tina’s ears perked up, but she didn’t want to show that the possibility was arousing her, so she tried to keep focus. However, when she felt Bette behind her, she couldn’t help but smile.

A sentimental smile tugged at Bette’s heart.

“Sex, you say?”

And in that messy kitchen in the late afternoon, the measuring cups sat patiently on the counter – the ingredients clustered by the stove in wait. It seemed the chefs, curiously enough, were nowhere to be seen.
