    Thinking Back Chapter 1

The Sunday paper came late this morning. I know this because I was still wide awake when the young lad threw it onto the walkway leading to the front steps. I wrapped the robe around my body, and went out into the rain to retreive it, opening it, I turned to the front page and took notice to the horrific story of a young lady that had taken a bad beating, and was in serious condition at the Medical Center in our area……

“I have been awake for what seems to be days, why didn’t anyone contact me on this case?”  I asked when I called my office……

“Miss Porter, we have already taken the necessary precautions to getting this taken care of….”

“I asked why I was not contacted, you know that I am the Solicitor General and I am supposed to be notified of any case that involves domestic violence” I said angrily……..

“I am sorry Miss Porter.” said the voice on the other line…..

“What would be the name of this young lady, Mr. Prestwood?”

“Well, we are not sure of that right now, noone has come forward to identify her, this is why we had the news cast to place an article in the paper, hopefully someone will come forward.”

“I am on my way to the hospital, is the victim able to talk?”

    “Yes mam….”

“Ok. Thank you…….In the future, if the people of my office want to keep their jobs, I suggest that they inform me of anything like this that may occur when I am away from the office. This is why we have phones…..not one, but 2 of them……..a home phone and a cell phone, got it Mr. Prestwood?” and I slung the phone down on it’s reciever….

I knew I had to hurry, so I got dressed, grabbed my keys and purse, and headed out the front door to make the trip to the Medical Center. I had no idea of what I was in store for when I arrived, nor would I be surprised. Hell, it seems as though Domestic Violence has become just as common lately as stealing from someone. I had worked so many hours, doing fund-raisers, charity work, completely put my life on hold, just hoping that I could be the one to make a difference in other people’s lives that have had to deal with this too. Yes, I did say TOO. I dealt with it in high school, and was beaten so bad by my boyfriend at the time, that I had to go through months and months of therapy to get back to my normal self. That was when I decided that I had to help others who are going through this, who else would know how it felt?….

    1. I like it alot…okay question…is this REALLY Tina’s family? Or are they back to finish the job? They might have thought they killed her. Why did it take them so long to come forward? Why wasn’t she reported missing? I am just suspicious like that….lol. Please continue.
