    Summary:
    Apprehension all around.

    “Uh, sure. Okay then.” Bette chuckled nervously and rubbed her arms up and down. “Let’s see. Um, almost my height.”

    “Uh, huh.” James moved to sit on one of the armchairs in Bette’s suite and crossed his legs once seated. His attention on his boss.

    “American.” Bette said next.

    “Like there hasn’t been a few of them in your life over the years.” James pointed out. “Be more specific please.”

    “Well she, uh . . . she . . .  has the nicest smile.” Bette whispered, unable to hide the slight upturn of her own lips just thinking about Tina and the way she looked last night.

    Lord, she had even wanted to kiss the blonde last evening. The urge to do so was still that strong it almost brought to her knees.

    “This a former friend or lover?” James asked, scratching his beard.

    “At one time,” Bette lamented, “both actually.”

    “Really?” James tilted his head to the side in thought. Racking his brain to put the clues together. “Okay. What else?”

    “Oh, just a dead giveaway I guess.” Bette had a faraway look in her eyes. “She has the most beautiful hazel eyes.”

    “Hazel eyes? Wait. . .. Wait. “James’ jaw dropped. “Nooooooo…”

    “Oh, yes, James.” Bette shook her head in the affirmative. She unconsciously licked her lips. “The one and only, Tina Kennard.”

    “What the fuck!” The words came out of James mouth without thinking.

    “That’s exactly what I thought.” Bette rubbed her forehead, still inwardly fighting the emotions she had felt on seeing Tina.

    “You meet her here?” James’ mind was whirling. “Where?”

    “Right outside the ballroom. I was leaving after I waved to you.” Bette explained. “She just seemed to appear almost out of nowhere.”

    “Lordy.” James looked to Bette for an explanation. “What’s she doing here in New York?”

    “Ashley.” Bette started to pace in front of him. Her strides long and measured. Her usual mode of action when she was nervous or unsure.

    “Ah, understandable.” James scratched his head now. “With Stonington out, she’ll want you to give Ashley a spot in the treatment program right away.”

    “Undoubtedly.” Bette’s pressed her lips together. “What’s the status on that entry into the treatment program for Ashley?”

    “I received an email just before I arrived here this morning.” James set his coffee cup down and pulled out his phone to review the message from the company’s treatment program director. “According to Dr. Carter, he can have a slot available for her entry . . . uh . . . within the next two weeks.”

        • I reread this again this morning – it was that good.

          Just wanted to get it clear in my head where they both are in their minds! Ha!

          I also read the other comments and for the most part, I agree with them. But I do see a way for reconciliation, especially if they both want it. Shit happens in life and it doesn’t always go the way we want, but if two people are willing and love each other as much as these two do,anything is possible.

          Loved how Bette and Tina thought back to seeing the other the night before and how it affected each of them. They’re still so deeply in love with each other.

          So, Nicole’s out of the way and I’m thinking Tina has or will shortly, send her captain on her merry way and onto the rest of her life without the lovely TK. So, they’re both be single, available, yearning for each other and horny as hell after all these years! Seriously time to rejoin!

          Looking forward to more great chapters from you.

          I’ll probably read this again before the end of the night. And now I’m thinking that I might go back to the beginning and read it all all over again!

          • I know what you mean about trying to keep things aligned in your mind – I’ve got this story, a rewrite of FMF that I’m posting on AO3 & I’m also working on another novel for possible publication – so I always have to go back & refresh my own mind as to where I am with what story!!

        So, yes, Bette’s ill & the prognosis isn’t good. But there are medical breakthroughs every day – so there’s still hope.

    4. Collins, it was fantastic to get the notification that you had posted an update. I absolutely love everything that you write because it speaks from your heart. You obviously adore these two characters and your appreciation of them rings true in every chapter and story. I’ve read all your stories and cherish them all. I often reread them when I need a Tibette fix!

      Kudos to you for sticking to your original plan for this story and to hell with what others many have disliked about it. I agree that you have presented both Bette and Tina as equals- they both have flaws and traits to appreciate and admure. It’s a testament to your vision and a demonstration that no matter how life unfolds, true love can endure and thrive once it’s ignited again.

      So, Bette’s trying to be noble again and doesn’t want to burdern Tina with her medical issue whuch seems to be pretty serious. ‘m sure as they interact together in the near future, Tina’s going to see right thru that and press Bette for answers.

      I absolutely love that you get into their heads and we get to glimpse what they’re thinking. So many of the stories that are writtren currently are all action based and never speak about what motivates the character or their actions. Thanks for giving us that in your writing.

      Looking forward with much hope for their upcoming meeting, although the title of the next chapter has me cautious- Confrontation??? I’m sure there’ll be some fireworks and lots of sexual tension. Wonder how long they’ll be able to keep their hands off each other.

    5. Bette appears to have regretted losing Tina, but is not going to let that stop her from standing by and repeating what she did 15 years ago. From Bette’s s conversation with James, there appears to be no regret for her choices and she intends to continue that path. And now Bette is sick and possibly dying? It is going to be interesting how these two ever get to be a couple again.

    6. Hey there, happy to finally see an update, I missed that story and your writing !

      First of all, I don’t know why readers think that you prefer Tina over Bette, for my part, I always found in all your stories that you described the qualities, the flawns and the errors of the two characters with impartiality but everyone is free to think, you know… differently. That said, very good chapter, a little short for my liking !

      So Bette intend to not tell Tina about the past ughh … She’s so stubborn, I really want to shake her and set her “straight”. She is convinced that Tina will have a better life without her and her problems, that she has always loved her and that she is doing this for her own good and that Tina will be able to go on with her life, what a brilliant plan genius, Tina is miserable…
      Doesn’t she realize that it’s up to Tina to decide what she wants to do with her life knowingly, how can you leave someone in absolute ignorance for her own good and pretend that you love her, Tina doesn’t even know it.
      Where is Helena when we need her?

      What a mess !

    7. Great that you are back – I’ve looked forward to an update for months. Happy for this one.

      I find your writing refreshing in that you DON”T take sides on what character is ‘better’ than the other. I’ve found all your stories honest and realistic in how you present Tibette and their relationship and characters. Stay true to your beliefs and how YOU want to write. I’ll definitely follow along.

      I’m sure hoping you’re planning on someone kicking Bette’s butt soon & get her to talk to Tina about everything. It’s needed.

      I’m excited for what comes next in the story and how it will all be pulled together!

        Yes, I’ve been thinking that our dear Bette needs a wakeup call or slap on the back of her head to get her to talk to Tina. Time’s a wasting & she needs to get a move on.

    8. Love getting an update to this story! I really enjoyed hearing Tina’s POV talking with Shane, and Bette’s talking with James. Very clever writing, Collins.

      I can’t wait for them to confess their love for each other still and for Bette to tell Tina everything. I’m thinking it all comes out in “Confrontation”?? That’s gonna be a good chapter…
