Trust issues
“You called him babe?”
“Well not him. I was expecting you so when I answered. I just said “Hi babe” then I heard his voice. I would have hung up on him but when he started talking about the picnic and what he’d said to the partners I totally lost it.”
“I’m sorry for jumping to the wrong conclusion.”
“I hope I will earn your trust with time but I would never hurt you like that Bette. I’m certainly not getting back with Eric. If I had any doubt about that he sealed it for me last night. We are totally and completely over. I don’t want to see him again or talk to him again or think about him again.”
“I get that now. I’m sorry for doubting you Tee.”
“So can we try again this evening? This time I’ll call you.”
“I’ll look forward to it. Francesca and I are visiting a Birth Center this afternoon but we should be home any time after 6:00 pm.”
“A Birth Center?”
“Yes. We’re doing natural childbirth and we want to use a Birth Center in Malibu. It comes highly recommended and it’s just minutes from Peggy’s. We’re taking a tour of the facility and making the reservations if we like it. It’s supposed to be very posh. They say that the birth suites each have their own bathroom and Jacuzzi, a full service eat-in kitchen and a living room. Some of the suites even have doors that open up to a patio or garden area.”
“Sounds like a resort. How long do they expect you to stay?”
“As long as needed I suppose. Some women are in labor for hours some for days. This place gives the family a comfortable private environment to wait it out. It beats being in a cold hospital room or waiting at home for that moment when you have to make the mad dash to the hospital and hope you get there in time. I want Francesca to have the best birth experience. The surroundings are luxurious but the focus is on providing the best health care. They offer several classes, workshops and seminars to help answer questions and to make both parents (in the traditional sense meaning the ‘dad’ or in our case the non-birth mother) feel as much a part of it as possible. The best part is I can be with her the whole time in the privacy of our suite. We can invite whomever we want to join us. They promote having family support.”
“It sounds amazing. I’m sure you realize that there are about a dozen people that will want to be there with you.”
“I know but we are going to limit it probably to just Kit, Peggy and myself for the actual birth. Everyone else is welcomed to visit after he’s born or come to the house once we get him home.”
“Of course. So are we good?”
“We’re good.”
“Then we better get back out there. I’m surprised Alice isn’t knocking the door down. I hope they left some food for us.”
“Don’t worry I have it in good with the owner and the chef. I’ll make sure we get fed.”
When Bette and Tina finally rejoined the group Alice, Dana, Val, and Leigh had arrived and everyone was well into their meals. Not surprisingly Alice had a smartass remark to greet them. Bette and Tina were served fresh hot food and they enjoyed the usual chatter with their closest friends.
***
Afterwards Francesca and Bette left for their appointment at the Birth Center. Alice and Dana went home. Val was spending the rest of the afternoon at Bette’s house working on the mural and enjoying the swimming pool. Leigh was keeping her company. They asked Tina if she wanted to hang out with them but she declined. She decided she would go to the beach instead. She found that whenever she had a lot on her mind the beach was the best place to relax and the calm helped to settle her anxieties. She was glad that she and Bette had worked out the misunderstanding about the phone call but it still bothered her that Bette didn’t truly trust her. What was it going to take? She got into her car and headed to the beach but she didn’t go to Santa Monica. Instead she headed to a more exclusive beach that wouldn’t be so crowded. She needed time alone to sort things out.

I just started to read this story over the long weekend. Every time I had a few moment I would read. I just finished your last chapter. I love a great long drawn out love story. Can’t wait for the next chapter
kenji so glad you discovered the story and have caught up. There is a lot going on in this story and a lot of distractions for Bette and Tina so the journey to love has been long and drawn out. The next chapter does bring them closer. Thanks for reading and taking the time to comment.
I am loving this story. Happy that they resolved their misunderstanding. However, Bette seems to have underlying trust issues which are making Tina have second thoughts about their pairing. Sometimes folks over think things. Paralysis by analysis.
Keep them coming.
Paralysis by analysis – You are on target there. Heart over Mind will lead them out of it.
BAT,
I couldn’t remember when was the last time that I commented on your story :) But hey I love everything you write even if sometimes it feels like it is anti-Tina. Hahaha!
This story is a little bit complicated. I do understand about the trust issue bcoz of Tina’s history but I’m with Dainty. Bette should be able to know why T is hesitant with the monogamous thing.
Thanks for posting.
Love,
Scribe
Hey scribe – it has been a while since I’ve heard from you, but happy to know that you are still following the story. I’m really not anti-Tina but I’ve been accused of it often enough so maybe I’m in denial :-)
I think Bette’s trust issues are more Bette’s problem than Tina’s. Tina has her own baggage and I hope to follow Dainty’s advise and allow her to open up more to Bette. I’ve already written 50 chapters of this story and it’s really a re-post but I am taking the time to edit some of the conversations to move in that direction.
Thanks for sharing your thoughts.
Great update. Glad that misunderstanding was cleared up but Tina still has more talking to do and so does Bette. I am always partial to their pairing and just always want to see them together loving each other, and being happy together. You are correct sometimes the chapters don’t show up (like this one), I had to look for it after I saw the tweet showed it had been posted 6hrs before. I had looked for a posting before turning off the computer about two o’clock but nothing was showing, not the tweet nor the story. I have noticed the site seems to be running on pacific time instead of eastern or central. Thanks for posting.
Thanks Dainty for letting me know about the chapters not showing up. I thought it was my computer. It’s good that tweets alert us when a new posting is made.
I know you’ve been reading my stories for many years and I so appreciate your loyalty even when I’ve taken them down and reposted them and taken them down again. I’m fickle that way. But knowing my style you can expect that I generally make Bette and Tina work towards that happy loving relationship. Sometimes it’s painful getting them there which doesn’t make me popular with Tibette fans but what I do promise is that when they get there they are solid and they have the foundation to make it last. That’s my goal with this story … even with the ups and downs they will eventually get it together.
Hey, BAT! I’m glad you responded to my comment, I always feel very good if a writer responds to reader’s comment. :)
Well, as I thought Bette jump to conclusions for Tina and Eric.
but I’m glad that Francesca, talking to her about it. It was an important point in what she said, “what kind of relationship would be between them, if they don’t trust each other”, it is very true!
cleared up the misunderstanding between them, but it is really a long way to go.
It was a good point in one comment: that people too often think it over of things, now it’s the two girls too :D
but I hope soon they will see that their hearts already know the answer! ;)
lipitora – I think when you read the next chapter you will be happy that indeed they have allowed their hearts to guide them. As much as I don’t always take the time to reply to comments believe me I do read them and I am inspired and encouraged by them. I thank you for that.
Phew……Thank God Tina cleared the air with Bette. I was hoping Bette would invite her to the Birthing Center.
Dee22 – you are getting ahead of the story. By the time Alex is born things will have taken a different turn. Stay tuned. Thanks for reading and commenting.
Tina needs to show Bette that she is willing to be monogamous and committed….I think that is part of Bette’s hesitation..At least that is my perception but you are doing a great job with this story BAT!
Pie_Fair – thank you. I agree with your perception but unless Bette gives her the opportunity Tina can’t prove herself. It’s a two-way street. They have a ways to go but they are getting there.
Bette naturally feel insecure with Tina, the blonde spent her open and relationships without commitment.
Tina got to love the same values of Bette.
This reminds me of a poem by Mario Quintana with title “Butterflies”
Thus says:
When we place a lot of trust in a person or expectations, the risk of
be disappointed is great.
People are not in this world to meet our expectations, as we are not here to meet her.
We have enough to suffice us … and we always try to be with someone when we have to be aware that we are together because we like because we want to and we feel good, never for need someone.
People do not need, they are complementary halves … not because they are but because they are whole, willing to share common goals, joys, and life.
Over time, you will realize that to be happy with someone else, you need to first, do not need it. Also realize that the person you love (or think you love) and does not want anything with you, definitely not the man or woman of your life.
You learn to like you, care for you, and especially like who likes you.
The secret is not caring for butterflies, but take care of the garden so that they come to you.
In the end, you will find
no you were looking for, but who was looking for YOU!
10 stars
mscully – I love the poem and it perfectly expresses what I think Bette and Tina will eventually discover for themselves. It’s a wonderful philosophy to live by. Thanks for sharing.
Hi! Just started reading this story a few days ago. Love the tale so far. Thank you for sharing!
