Twisted Triangles – Chapter 44a

“Of course not.” He finally says keeping his eyes cast downward while keeping a hand clutched in Tina’s.
“Look, I can’t speak for Tina. But I can’t take much more of these fights with either of you about the looks you think that Tina and I giving to one another. Or asking if the other is going to be where we’re going. We’ve done nothing to warrant suspicion from either one of you.”
“Right.” Eric says simply, but pointedly at me.
“About Tina, Eric.” I return.
“Still.” He says.
“Do you want to do this here, now?”
“I think it’s a good idea, Bette.” Tina finally chimes in. I offer a small smile in return.
“I don’t know. I mean the two of you hid your relationship pretty well last time.” Grace interjects.
“Yes, you’re right we did. But baby, we weren’t together then. And neither were the two of them. I think it’s unwise to equate these two situations.”
“Look, what it comes down to is,” Tina says, “do the two of you trust us enough to sit and talk privately while we work some stuff out?”
“I trust you, babe” Eric answers her, but keeps his gaze on me.
“O….k. What about you Gracie?”
“I’m not sure. I trust you both, but the thought of both of you alone is a little unsettling to me.”
“Well, you just have to trust your girlfriend and your best friend.”
“I have a proposal. What if for the first couple of meetings Tina and I meet at a public space so that if you guys want you could be present, but not around us. I mean if you feel the need to observe what we do, that’s the best solution I have.”
“I don’t know, Bette. That seems…” Tina starts.
“That sounds great. Let’s do the watching thing. Yeah, Grace?” Eric quickly spits out.
“Ok wow. Yeah sure. That sounds fine.”
“Great. Good.” I say relieved that the hard parts over. I look around the now quiet room. Tina has her hands pressed together looking down, a sign of uncertainty on her part. I wanted to tell her about the plan beforehand, but this exact problem is why I couldn’t. Eric is also uncertain but a little upset that this is happening at all. As for Grace, it’s hard to tell. She isn’t giving anything away. She like me is keeping her eyes squarely on Tina. I hope this works.
