    Two Days On Our Own

    Chapter 6

Dawn, a burning orange dawn spreading its warm tentacles all over the bay, all over the shore. The sea turned slightly green, reverberated, vibrated, waves smashing against the wet sand and then disappearing, leaving a trail of white foam.

In Shane and Carmen’s room, an unmade bed. Sheets touching the floor lightly, crumpled pillows, and soft noises. Whispers, light moans, kisses like feathers.

Shane lifted her body from Carmen’s, propped on the palms of her hands and looked down.

Carmen looked up, their eyes met. She took her time observing Shane, the way her hair fell down on her eyes like black, irregular flames. She observed her pale skin, still wet with sweat, her red lips. She listened to her breath, still panting but becoming more and more regular.

Carmen’s hand reached out and stroked Shane’s cheek, then rested on her neck, on her shoulder. Slowly. A soft pressure, a delicate contact. The most intimate contact between the most intimate parts of their bodies was, on the other hand, still boiling hot.

Shane kept eye-contact, her chest raising and falling slowly. She breathed through her nostrils, her head ducked to a side, her face exhausted but completely satisfied. Totally serene.

    “Hey…”, Carmen breathed out.

“Hey you…”, Shane replied in a murmur. Her voice sounded raspier than usual, and Carmen closed her eyes. That voice always made her think about the wolves’ throaty growl, about the wind storming through the trees, about crackling flames, sand slipping through a hourglass.

Wolf, wind, fire, sand… Shane was all of that and so much more. Dark side, bright side, and Carmen loved it all.

“I love you”, Carmen felt the need to say it, and felt the need to repeat it, over and over again. But she didn’t repeat it. It was yelling into her soul, like a prisoner hammering against the bars, looking for an escape, but Carmen repressed it. She just looked at Shane, eyes softened, sweet, and smiled. Her fingers lingered on Shane’s lips.

Shane kissed them. A feather, a whisper, a butterfly. The kiss of a wolf.

“I love you, too”, she replied gently. Huskily, again.

”And I’d give up forever to touch you
Cause I know that you feel me somehow
You’re the closest to heaven that I’ll ever be
And I don’t want to go home right now…”
