    Uncharted Territory

She looks rather confused as she notices that the sun is already setting but the next moment she lightens up again. And I know she wants to prolong our time together  just as much as I do even before she answers. ‘I’d love to.’

After I pay the cheque we leave the restaurant and make our way to the beach. In the most natural way her hand reaches out for mine when she is about to lose her balance while taking off her pumps. And her hand stays there, our fingers intertwined as if we have done this many times before. The flaming sun that reaches the horizon forms our décor as our footprints leave a path in the wet sand, lazily strolling without any clear destination in mind, but heading in the same direction. Her hand fits perfectly in mine, I look aside and we exchange a dreamy smile, not comprehending any of this. For a moment I get lost in the flames of the sun reflecting in her eyes. ‘I have to apologize to you.’

‘For what?’ Her gaze into my eyes is mesmerizing and intense and she hypnotizes me every time just a little while longer. I just know she sees every time a bit more of me.

‘For telling you earlier that you look great.’

She stops in her tracks and gives my hand a small tuck to pull me closer, her raised eyebrow shows that she is completely aware that I am flirting with her. ‘You want to tell me that you were lying to me?’

‘No, it was true, but it was an understatement.’ And finally I give into the desire that has been torturing me whole afternoon. My hand reaches for the lock of hair that keeps on falling over her face, and I let my fingertips briefly play with it. ‘You are absolutely gorgeous.’ I whisper as I tuck the lock of hair behind her ear. She briefly closes her eyes and almost unnoticeably leans into my hand.

‘What are you doing to me?’ Her soft spoken words almost get lost in the sound of the waves rolling onto the beach, but I know exactly what she means, because I’m pondering about the same. When she opens her eyes I see the silent plea for any kind of answer.

‘I’m going to kiss you now.’ I whisper breathlessly. The first touch of our lips is a tender brush, but as soft as it is it causes electricity to shoot through my body. If I was hoping that our attraction was just something I imagined, I can forget about that now, because when she cups my face with her hands and presses her lips against mine again, I know I’m completely lost. By itself my hands slide around her waist and simultaneously we move closer to each other. As the kiss deepens our chemistry becomes an ever-bright flame. Her lips are soft and silky and the taste of the wine lingers back and forth between us. She is sweet and timid at first, but soon she is daring, open and honest. Her playfulness reflects in the game of our tongues and lips and I am her willing playmate. It lifts me up and I am floating somewhere in the clouds with her. I lean back and slowly open my eyes. ‘I feel like I am flying.’ I say deeply touched by our first kiss and my own voice sounds unrecognizable to me, just like I know I will never be the same again.

The bell chimes as the door of the small café opens and I look down at the note in my hands.

    Holding you, I held everything.

With a smile on my face I wave at the waiter and order another coffee, sugar won’t be needed.

    1. There appears to be a thaw in the temperature between Bette and Tina, the result of reminiscing how they felt about each other when they first met….. so what happened to those people?

      Thanks for the update….

    2. My goodness! Wow. Pure innocence to just let their initial meeting be pure. NOT trying to impress, nor please, nor demand. Just simply letting their first moments “be”.

There was a sense of cherishing what they were sharing. Now they’ll need to find out when they let those types of moments fade. When they began to take for granted the leaving of notes, giving of flowers, the intimate acknowledgements of their special friendship, that led to marriage.

now it feels like Renne’s illness and pending passing will have a profound affect in sobering up these two, to work stuff out and love one another with a new love.

    3. Hey, i have read all your chapters and i must admit i am intrigued how they will be able to reconcile. Their is a little progress forward but i think it will take time and lots of talk before they get there.
