Unconditional Love Chapter 16
Angie showed an obvious sense of relief and wiped her tears. ”Tell Mom I love her when she wakes up, ok.”
”Of course I will, but you can tell her yourself when we call,” Tina said again reassuringly. ”Shane,” Tina called out.
”Yea,” Shane said as she took the phone. Just as Tina began to talk at the screen, both women heard a heart wrenching yell in a voice they both recognized, ”TIIIIIINNNNNNAAAAAA!!!!! ”I’ll call you back,” A rush of shock swept over Tina as she hung up and quickly came into the room.
Tina met Peggy’s uneasy gaze as she quickly entered the room. Both women stood watching Bette thrash around repeating Tina’s name with so much anguish in her tone and her wide open eyes. The nurse came in and grabbed Bette’s arm that had an IV in it, while saying, she must have had something seriously on her mind when she went under. The nurse directed Tina to hold Bette’s other arm. Bette soon after settle down and was quietly sleeping once again.
”People sometime wake up like this when they have something going on in their head that is very emotional. She probably won’t remember any of this, but this means she is waking up,” the nurse said smiling reassuringly. ”She will probably be conscious but groggy within the next hour or so.”
Peggy watched as Tina wiped tears from her face, both women knowing exactly what caused the emotional outburst.

Bette and Tina made it to the apartment several hours later. The hospital would not release Bette unless she could pass water, which was proving very difficult. Peggy left soon after Bette woke up saying there was no need for her to stay waiting for Bette to pee. The crisis was over in her mind. After an hour and a great deal of liquid, Bette became even more determined to pee when they told her she would have to have a catheter put in before she went home. Bette’s response was of course, ”hell, fucking no.” A chuckle from Tina brought a glare from Bette, but immediately it softened as the familiar sound brought her overflowing comfort.
Tina, thinking quickly, called Alice and told her what was going on and to call in about 10 minutes when Bette would be heading to the bathroom. Tina told Alice to just talk to her. An hour later they were home, Bette was frustrated with Alice, but it had worked.
Tina helped Bette to the bedroom. They slowly put Bette’s pajamas on, Tina seeing the five incisions across Bette’s beautiful taunt mocha midsection, the longest cut being downward across her belly button. Tina gave Bette ibuprofen and settled her in the bed.
”Are you ok,” Tina asked
”Yea, it hurts but not to bad,” Bette said as she tried to adjust herself in bed.
Peggy and Tina had decided that now was not the time to tell Bette what had happened as she came out of her anesthesia. It had been a long day, starting at 7a, ending at 9p and both women were exhausted emotionally and physically.
”I’m gonna go get ready for bed,” Tina said with a smile as she squeezed Bette’s hand briefly and then started towards the door.
”T?” Bette said softly.
Tina was exhausted, but Bette referring to her as ”T” did not go unnoticed. ”Yea,” she said as she came back to the side of the bed.
”Please don’t go,” Bette asked with insecurity in her tone and eyes.
”Don’t worry, I’ll be back and sleep in the chair,” Tina said reassuringly. ”I’m not going to leave you alone.”
Bette looked up at Tina, ”Sleep with me tonight…,” she said looking exhausted and fragile.
Tina new this was innocent and shouldn’t make more of it. Bette needed comforting and that was why Tina was here. ”Ok, let me get changed.”
So Tina and Bette slept in the same bed for the first time in over two years.

Enjoying your story very much. Wondering if the new series will actually come back for another season. No time soon to be sure. Maybe the GQ terrible writers have been reading your story. They sure need the tutorial. Glad that Bette is going to be ok. Leave it to our Peggy to cut to the chase. She adores Bette and thank God Bette has her. Figure it out Tina! Lastly, there seems to be more to the Wentworth Gallery story?

I am glad you are enjoying it. This is a slow unfolding story. Context is what it is all about. I always have 3 working chapters just to keep everything straight.
Peggy definitely didn’t hold her tongue. But, she never would.

Slow story is just fine. Looking forward to reading.
Great story…..so no cancer….surgery seems to have gone well. Terrible time to have so much emotional upheaval. But it would appear that Bette has be suffering emotional trauma for a couple of years. So what happened? How do they avoid this from happening again?
I understand Peggy being protective, but Bette cannot be protected by anyone else. She can only protect herself from Tina. And if she does not want to protect herself, she will not. Tina needs to make up her mind – does she want a life with Bette or not. She needs to want it more than she wants life itself before she ask her for another chance. One more try and fail would appear to be fatal for Bette. And in my opinion – accept Bette for who she is or leave and never attempt to communicate with her again – no more promises, no more compromises and disappointments and no more grass is greener elsewhere and no more anticipation or request for changes which does not originate within her own soul. Bette is who she is and she love Tina without reservation. What more could Tina want? Commit and do everything to keep that commitment. Tina! And if you cannot commit, to who she is right now, then walk away.
Thank you for this story. It is so heart breaking to see Bette is so much emotional pain. I look forward to more
Nailed it!

I am glad you enjoyed Peggy. You wrote a couple chapters back something to the effect of more Peggy backstory. I had chuckled at the time because this had already been in its first draft. LOL

So glad it’s not Cancer don’t think I could have coped with that!
Great chapter, love Peggy!
Please post more soon
SG
Thank you for the chapter!
So, they slept in on bed – i guess it’s something, yeah?
I also have mixed emotions about Peggy intrusion – from one side she told right things to Tina, but from another – Tina right – it’s not Peggy business

Any parent’s intrusion on their adult child’s relationship is never wanted, but always seems to happen. They can’t help themselves.
This was fun to write.

Great story. Glad it was not cancer. Now they can start finding their way back to each other. I totally get Peggy coming to talk to Tina and I hope she’s listening and takes it to heart. Don’t we all need a Peggy in our lives, I know I could use someone to sit me down at times and lays it on the line. Looking forward to the next chapter as Bette heals and Tina starts to figure her shit out.
Thanks
Totally agree!
So happy no cancer! Everyone should have a Peggy in their lives…..blunt and unfiltered! LOL
Thrilled that Peggie had an honest talk with Tina.
Madamn P was 100% right to lay it out strongly to Tina that she wasn’t budding into their business, but rather was just stating her unconditional love for Bette as a daughter. It’s NOT Peggie’s fault that Tina forgot what it means to “cherish” Bette’s heart.
Tina had put conditions on when and how she was going to love Bette and to me, that is the heart of the matter. She just needs to decide that she will faithfully love Bette.
Bette had/has put in the effort to learn how and why she responds to many of life’s curve balls the way she does; and with therapy, she has discovered much about her personality.
I suspect that her mini-clone, Angie has helped Bette feel the unconditional love that she has been craving from Tina.
Seems like Tina needs to continue her own journey of discovery and soul recovery and get on with the program!
SuperK,
Wondering if our girls are having so much trouble deciding “when” to respond to the “sexual” electricity that still remains between them is because they want more than “just” sex in the relationship.
The intimacy of emotional nourishment that they’ve known in the past may be a MUST HAVE at this point in their lives. They have got to figure out what will be the lifeblood of this new relationship.
Angie will be off to college in a couple of years and Tibette needs to have a strong bond of admiration and longing to be a couple with a fierce-love for each other.
Well, Tina needs to get her shit together. I love direct and respectful dialogue. It leaves no room for misunderstandings.
