    Unlikely Alliance

    “I’ll call my lawyer.”

“I’ll get us an appointment with Joyce. I may need to hire her myself.”

    ***

Winnie Mann and Bette Porter formed an alliance and became friends after that meeting.

“Hey, do you and the kids want to go swimming? We can grill some burgers later if you like.”

Once the kids heard swimming and burgers, there was no way Winnie could say no.

“I don’t swim. Would you mind taking them? I’ll get the burgers going if that’s OK.”

    “Sure. That’ll be great.”

While Bette went to the master bedroom to change into her swimsuit Winnie took the kids out to the rental car to get bathing suits and floaties from their suitcase. She’d packed and checked out of the Malibu Beach hotel and had planned to stay at a hotel near LAX that evening as she was to fly back to New York the next day. However, after talking with Bette and with the prospect of meeting Joyce Wischnia she canceled the flights and changed the hotel to one in West Hollywood.

They had a great time swimming and playing in the pool. The once shy kids were now boisterous, laughing, playing games in the pool and splashing water everywhere. Winnie loved seeing her kids so carefree and having fun. That’s the normal life she wanted for them. Bette loved being with the kids and got a glimpse of what she hoped would be her family life with Tina and the baby someday.

    ***

Bette went to the master bedroom to shower while Winnie got the kids cleaned up in the guest bathroom then they settled down to have dinner. Winnie prepared grilled cheeseburgers with all the fixings and potato chips for the kids and salads for her and Bette. By the end of the evening Helena Peabody’s children were calling her Auntie Bette.

Before meeting Winnie Bette was feeling pretty defeated especially where Tina was concerned but afterwards things started to turn around very quickly.

After saying goodnight to Winnie and the kids Bette locked up and headed to her bedroom. She’d left her cell phone on the charger earlier and when she checked it noticed that she had a voicemail from Tina. She hoped Tina wasn’t calling to cancel on her, as they had plans to get together later in the week for lunch at the Planet.

Bette pressed play. Hearing Tina’s voice made her heart sing, but the message itself brought tears to eyes.

“Hey Bette, I know we’re getting together on Thursday, but I just wanted to tell you that I’ve been thinking about our baby. We conceived of this baby together, and you should absolutely be part of her life.”

    1. Thank you for the chapter!

it’s hard to comment after most ridiculous final of the most ridiculous final season ever (yeah, i’m talking about final of 8th season GoT). And i must say if we can compare with this disaster – final season of our TLW was not so bad:)

so, after explanation about time where this chapter take place – i’m not confuce anymore.

      • Zhenya – sorry you were disappointed with GoT finale. I’m one of very few people that never watched the show in the ten years it was on, so I can’t comment.

Thanks for reading and glad the explanation lessened any confusion on the timeline. I’m back to the present; just wanted to give some background.

    2. Hi Bat,

Interesting chapter and a good eye opener to Helena’s character, just because she has money she thinks she can do anything and destroy innocent people.

She is a pure evil and bitch, unfit as mother and i am glad that Winnie has the support of Bette to win the custody battle.

The scene between Helena and Winnie was also a eye opening for Tina and the first step in admitting Bette as the mother of her child.

I look forward to the next chapter!

      • Bibi28. Helena certainly did exhibit a pattern of behaviors in the way she approached her relationships. I didn’t care for her character on the show, but I think she helped Bette and Tina’s relationship to be better the third time around. Tina was less inhibited and Bette less controlling.
