    Unusual Meeting – Chapter 5

Bette told her yes, leading to the next question.  “Why?” Tina needed to know.

“Sweetie, my gun is like my American Express card.  I don’t leave home without it.”

Tina looked at her like she did not appreciate her sense of humor.  Bette saw the look and explained further.  “Tina I’m a cop, it’s what I do.  I carry my weapon in case I ever need it.  I want to be prepared to defend myself and my loved ones, if anything should ever happen.”

Tina still looked questioning.  “Do you remember the Luby’s cafeteria shooting years ago in Waco?”  Tina nodded.  “Did you know that there were some off duty police officers inside?  Do you know that if one of them had had their gun, there might not have been so many casualties.  That’s why I always carry my gun.  I’m not looking for anything, but I will be prepared if anything happens.”

Tina relaxed after hearing Bette’s explanation.  She had never been around guns much growing up, I guess it’s just something I’m going to have to get used to.  With that thought she remembered what they had been doing prior to the gun talk.  “Where were we?” she asked Bette as she leaned down to reclaim her lips.

Just as the temperature in the living room began to heat up a few degrees, Bette’s cell phone rang.  Bette tried her best to ignore it, but alas duty calls.  Fuck, not now.  She reluctantly pulled away from Tina and told her, “that’s the PD, I have to answer it, sorry.”

Tina climbed off of Bette, settling back into a seated position on the couch.  She let out a deep breath of exasperation, blowing the hair on her forehead up out of her eyes.

“Hey Lt. Porter, you got a minute?” Sergeant Barton began his usual greeting.  Johnson got into a pursuit, leading to a DWI arrest.  Can you come run the intoxilyzer?”

“Yeah sure.  Are you still at the scene?”

“Yes, we should be there in about ten minutes.”

“See you there.” Bette said as she hung up the phone and glanced over at Tina.

“Tina I’m sorry.  I’ve got to go to work for a little while.  It’ll take less than an hour.”

    1. I’m from West Virginia and guns still freak me out a bit. Last time I tried to shoot one my face was too close to it and it kicked back and gave me a cut under my eye. lol I’m glad to see they aren’t jumping into bed already. I always love a good slow burn.

    2. ok so I hope that if Bette loves her job that she is not pressured to quit because of Tina’s insecurities and that instead she learns to adjust and accept it. If on the other hand she hates her job then let her quit. I already see that we’re in for a slow burn and no speedy updates, bummer…..anywho. I hope you post soon!!! And a bit longer chapters

    3. i love this fic…….it is a great start……i like the whole old-fashioned love thing…….wooing tina off of her feet…..and i love the thought of bette as a cop…….it makes the storyline more interesting, and it certainly opens up alot more that you could write about……no stopping on this fic……to many ways you can take this…….kudo’s and a whole helluva lotta stars for you ldw604

    4. I’m from Texas also and though we are not from the deep south, Texas is considered mid-south, we still honor a number of the old ways and one is wooing a lass and sweeping her off her feet. It is so much fun.

    5. Tina has a lot more self control than I do. I grew up in a house that always had/has guns. Heck my dad is a Texan, they have guns in their boots. I can’t wait to see Bette sweep Tina off of her feet. Post soon.

    6. Bette should let it be known at the PD that they can’t keep calling her for any little back up. Looking forward to the courting and wooing even though the winning part has perhaps already been accomplished…LOL!

    7. I guess Bette could wear an ankle holster and wider-legged pants! …I don’t like guns either, but it goes with the territory. A police officer has to be ready at all times, even off duty. Never know when a perp might want to get revenge. They also usually don’t list their names or addresses in public directories for the same reason. Good luck, Bette and Tina! Thanks.

    8. Just catching up on your story… your Bette is a very dedicated cop! (But perhaps its time for her to teach her deputies how to use that intoxilyzer on their own ;-) Very nice, thanks for writing it!

    9. Imagine having a girl like Bette say that to you…..WOW Tina is one lucky girl :o)) Great beginning to a very sweet story and I’m glad they are taking things slow, but how slow can they take it??? LOL. Post soon please….

    10. of course I am a Texan also, Dallas Texas to be exact, and theres a lot of old fashion down here for the good and bad. Maybe bad shouldn’t quit her job but become like some sort of superintendent or something where she can still be a cop but not worked the streets but that’s if her and Tina really become serious, other than that deal with it Kennard, that’s cop life. These two are sooooo adorable in this story, I love the way Bette calls her babe and baby after just meeting her #SoFuckingCute
