I decide to call Alice and invite her to have fun somewhere tonight. I’ve been a good hardworking girl all week and now I need a party.

Alice answers her phone right away. ”Hey. I was actually about to call you.”

”Yeah? Something you wanted to tell me?”

”How are you?” she asks abrubtly, which surprises me. Alice never asks how I am doing.

”Um. I’m good. Are you alright? You sound sad or something.”

I hear her heave a huge sigh. ”Dana’s going on a month tour tomorrow and I didn’t like it when she told me and we had a big fight about it and I think we’re over. She said she wants to take a break.”

    ”Shit, Al, I’m so sorry…”

”Nah, I knew our breakup was inevitable. I’m just tired of all the fighting, ya know.”

”Do you want me to come over?”

”I was thinking about going somewhere. I need distraction.”

”Sure. I’ll be free in an hour.”

”Let’s meet up at Starlight for starters, somewhere about eight.”

    ”Deal. Till later.”

Just as I end the call Tina comes up with my order. She puts the dish and the glass of wine on the table, not making eye contact with me, even though I stare at her point-blank. And then she’s gone again.

Yep, I’m totally done with her.

I eat my light dinner quickly, so that I can be at Starlight on time. Having swallowed the last of the wine, I ask for the bill.

Shortly afterwards Tina appears with the bill. I’m gonna tip her generously since this is the last time she sees me. Who knows, maybe she won’t be this lucky to have a lavish customer anytime soon.

But what follows next totally blows me away. After she puts the bill on the table, she says this, ”I’m finishing in about half an hour. Then I have to walk dogs. You can join me if you want.”

I’m barely able to keep my mouth closed, for I’m so stunned at this twist of fate that I’m ready to burst into…happy dance? Unrestrained laughter? Angry rant?

    All of this simultaneously, please.

And you know what? My brain thinks that it’s not really necessary to think everything over, so the first thing I do is blurt out, ”Sure. I’ll wait for you here then.”

    1. Hi Valerie:

This chapter is awesome and incredibly good, you are so funny describing Bette’s mannerisms, and she is so full of herself, the opposite of Tina; Bette so shallow and spoiled and Tina so deep and hardworking, and Bette is falling for her.
Your story is getting more and more interesting. Thanks so much for this chapter and I will eagerly wait for your update.
