Wanna Date? Chaper 19

Thursday night had arrived, and amazingly, Bette Porter was still innocent of any major crime involving violence towards a subordinate. The Allyn Barnes retrospective had been the most ambitious show the CAC had done in years in terms of scale. Everyone there had been totally committed, every inch of wall and floor space was given over to her work. She might be one of the greatest living artists in America, but presented badly, the show could be a huge letdown.
Bette’s newfound resolve for calm and rationality had been severely tested, but the big night had finally arrived, and now it was all down to the reaction of the public and the critics.
“Bette, this all looks wonderful,” Allyn said happily as she approached the stunningly gorgeous museum director. As usual, Bette had gone for the slightly conservative, classy, professional look, and as usual, she pulled it off better than anyone else in the room.
She gave Allyn a hug, satisfied that she had done all she could to showcase the work.
“I’m actually quite nervous,” the artist revealed. “No one else to blame if people hate it all.”
Bette smiled reassuringly. “Allyn, this is a huge thrill for anyone who calls themselves an art lover. Your work had been unattainable for far too long. I’m just happy you gave the CAC a chance to be the ones to re-launch you as one of the foremost artists in the country.
Allyn looked as if she were blushing.
“I hope you’re right Bette.” She replied.
“Bette, I must admit, it’s all going well,” drawled a horribly familiar voice. Actually, for Helena, that was almost a declaration of love. “Thank goodness you had Leo to do most of the work.”
Bette had to admit; Helena was a master at the snide insults that to a casual listener could sound like compliments. She could almost admire her style, if only she didn’t hate her guts quite so much.
“Well, we all contributed Helena,” she said non-committedly. She had sweated blood over this exhibit, working harder than she had ever done for any other show. Of course, as a huge fan, it had been so much more rewarding. Helena hadn’t lifted finger, except to sign the cheques.

Your story unfolds beautifully with each chapter. I’m saddened by the fact that the end draws near, but hopeful you will begin a new story when this one finishes. Thanks for writing. Bring on 20!

IWONDERFUL JOB..I’M SAD IT IS THE END SOON,BUT THANKS FOR THE WONDERFUL STORY
simply loving your story, definitely more satisfying than how it unfolded in S2! Please continue to spin your take on bette and tina, hope this continues for many many more chaps….long running series? Thanks!!
S2 began with a Dusty Springfield song, ‘Just a Little Lovin’
I propose another song from that album, in reference to both Bette’s love for Tina, and our unfulfilled hopes for S2:
In The Land of Make Believe
(I wish we could have had your scenario – please indulge me and pardon the length)
In the land of make believe
You’re mine tonight
Although you are far away
In the land of make believe
I’m holding you tight
The silver moon is shining above
And there’s love in your eyes
And I’m kissing you
Like I used to do
Yesterday in paradise
I’ve been living in the land of make believe
Since you’ve been gone
I need you so much
That without your love
I must deceive myself
To go on
Your loving hand caresses my face
We embrace tenderly
Never will we part
Deep down in my heart
You are always here with me
You are always here with me
In the land of make believe
In the land of make believe
In the land of make believe
Page after page of closure!
You don’t know how satisfying that is!
Or, maybe you do!
This is great. I sure hope Tina says yes to Bette – I mean who could resist her. LOL
OMG…what a wonderful chapter. Tina finally got her closure with Helena. Tina stood up to Helena with strength, dignity, and love. Yes love, not for Helena, but for herself and Bette. Helena was there for Tina at a time she needed someone (although Helena had ulterior motive) — and Tina learned a lot about herself with Helena. Anyway, Tina got her closure and Bette finally found the words to tell Tina her real feelings. Bette not only told and showed Tina how much she loves her and wants her back in her life as her “wife,” but she showed Tina her vulnerability. Bette opened herself up to Tina, she exposed herself in a way that she can be blissfully happy or deeply wounded. Big step — and I think Tina saw that in Bette words in addition to the love. Great chapter…I’m saddened that it coming to an end. Thank you.
“happiness was just a day away” is it just a day away for us too? ;-)
Yes, yes, take her now you sexy beast! (lol)
Great chapter ! And a very nice little cliffhanger now. Common, T, say yes ! ^_^
