    Author Notes:

    After their respective lunch interludes, Bette and Tina have an evening together planned, although things don’t go quite as expected.

     

    Tina looked surprised at Bette’s choice. “You’re not staying?” she asked, disappointed.

     

    “You’re tired T, and I have to be at work early tomorrow. Only a few days left to get everything sorted for the show.”

     

    Tina slapped herself on the forehead. “Oh my God, I didn’t ask you anything about it Bette. How is it going? Are you ok?”

    Tina knew how Bette got in the time leading up to shows. She was amazed to realize that Bette was calm and rational. Tina hoped she hadn’t taken her stress out on anyone at the CAC. For a horrible minute she had visions of Franklin and Helena chopped up into tiny little pieces and hidden in the basement. How else could Bette be so calm?

     

    “I’m fine T, actually, I’ve been leaving quite a bit of it to James, and even Leo. I know I resented the man, but he’s actually pretty good at his job. Besides, he might as well earn some of that Peabody salary.”

     

    Tina was quiet for a minute. Bette had delegated. She had actually let other people make decisions?  This was a change, and a big one at that. Maybe Bette genuinely had re-evaluating her priorities.

     

    “So no temper tantrums? Nothing smashed?” She asked doubtfully.

     

    Bette laughed. “You must think I’m a monster Tina, or at least that I turn into one twice a year. Was I that bad?” She could tell by the expression on Tina’s face that she was, or had been anyway.

     

    “I’m proud of you Bette, ” Tina said after a time. “You seem to be handling it really well this time.”

     

    “Yeah, I’m ok. But I know I’ll be a nervous wreck next Thursday. Will you be there Tina? Will you come and hold my hand?” She looked pleadingly at her lover.

     

    “Of course I will baby, you didn’t have to ask. Besides, I was looking forward to seeing this Allyn Barnes’ work. I know you admire her greatly, and you did that thesis on her years back didn’t you? I can’t wait to see her artwork.”

     

    Bette had an ear-to-ear grin. Tina was coming. He grin lessened just a bit at a sudden thought.

    “T, will you come with me? As my d..date?”

     

    Tina didn’t hesitate. “I’d love to.”

    4. Loved this chapter. Both of them want to say so much, but cannot come up with just the right words. Bette is going to further surprise Tina, because I think she’s going to tell Tina exactly how she feels — she’s willing to finally show Tina all of her vulnerabilities to regain her true love. Can’t wait for the next chapter. Thanks.

    12. Bette is so cute when she’s unsure and shy. Tina is pretty cute too with her inner dialogue about what she wants. It will be sad to see this story end, it’s been a great read. You have filled in the blanks wonderfully.
