    What Time Can DoPart 4

    Characters: Tina and Alice (sort of)
    Tina prepares for the big meeting.


    Tina: (holding her cell phone in her hand with a big smile upon her face)Alice, its me. (Short pause) Calm down and Ill tell you. She said she would meet me tonight.

    Tina: Hey Al, I know things have been tough for you trying to be both of our friends during this, and Im sorry you got caught in the middle.

    (Pause)

    Tina: I know but this has strained your friendship.

    (Pause)

    Tina: I know.

    [Tina was quiet for a minute, almost as though she was afraid to speak.]

    Tina: (Seriousness in Tinas voice)Al, I need to ask you something.

    (Pause)

    Tina: I need to know how shes doing. I know youve tried to fill me in the past few months, but honestly, I wasnt always listening.

    (Pause)

    Tina: (a slight desperation in her voice)Al, please be up front with me. How is she doing?

    (Long Pause)

    [Tinas eyes begin to tear up. Why did this happen to us. I should have spoken to her sooner, but I couldnt bring myself to listen to excuses. Logical reasons I could handle but not excuses, not from Bette.]

    Tina: (Softly and full of emotion)Al, did I wait too long? Have I lost her for good?

    (Pause)

    Tina: Im asking because when we talked today she seemed excited at first, like the Bette I know. As the conversation went on she changed.

    Tina: (Concerned)Yes, I told her where to meet me and she had no emotion in her voice. Do you think she remembers thats OUR spot?

    [A single tear runs down Tinas cheek as she recalls the night Bette proposed to her on the Pier.]

    Tina: Al, (pause)Im scared I wont be able to get her back. At first she tried so hard to get me to listen but I couldnt. She then tried to get me to talk to her but I wouldnt. She wanted so bad to try and work things out so that I would come back but the thought of that repulsed me. I didnt know how to handle things or what I should do. I couldnt risk getting hurt again. (Pause)Now the tables are turned, why did it take me so long to see it?

    (Long pause)

    Tina: I know what I have to do, and Al thanks for everything. Youve been a great friend.

    [Tina hangs up the phone and stares off into space. Its amazing what time can do.]

    6. Great job! Yes, the chapters are short…but this is your story. Tell it at your pace, and if we get a little frustrated, well it’s just because we are enjoying it so much, that we want more!
