    When Hope Is Lost

    “The new man?”

“Bette is his foster mom and is in the process of adopting him. They’ve been together almost from the moment that Bette arrived in New York. He is the sweetest boy I’ve ever met and such an old soul in a young body. I love him to death and he’s her son all the way.”

“Wow! I certainly wasn’t expecting that. But the relief I feel in knowing that it’s a little boy, is huge. I thought that you were going to tell me that she had a new love interest. My heart fell a bit in thinking that.”

“Yes, I could tell that by just watching your face… Well, she does love him fiercely, but she’s not dated since she arrived there. Just as you are doing, she’s in therapy to become a better person for her self. That’s very important to her. She didn’t like the person she’d become for the damage it had done to her life here in LA. Even Ozzie goes to see her Life Coach, Sonia as well as he wants to be a healthy guy. I don’t know if you’d even recognize Bette as she’s changed so much.”

“After talking with my therapist, I realized that I needed to do the same thing and get better for myself first and then I could be so much better in relationship with others. I have messed up with so many of them with the way I was, and now I know I’m much more confident and could be so much better in them. I want to be a better me for me and then a better partner and wife to Bette and a good mom to our kids… however that looks. What’s she like now?” Tina asked.

“Hmm, how can I best describe her? She’s very loving, kind, calm and grounded… wearing the best and having the best isn’t a part of her anymore. Being egocentric and arrogant isn’t a part of her either. So, I guess what I’m saying is, if that’s what attracted you to her in the first place then you’ll have to find someone new here in LA. She’s more like you were with her after you first got together in that kind, generous and loving way that you were.
