    When Hope is lost:

“Well, you’re a better woman than me as I wouldn’t let her back in yet.” Alice replied and Tina just smiled.

“And, that’s why I’m with her and you’re not. Alice, one day you’re going to have to grow up a bit.” Tina said to her honestly. “So, has anyone seen or heard from her?” She asked, and everyone shook their heads, no. This suddenly worried Tina.

“I think she’s laying low because we all turned our backs on her for hurting you, T.” Shane shared her thoughts. I saw her once about three weeks ago… or maybe it was four… I can’t remember. Hey, Kit?” Shane said to Bette’s sister as she came walking over to the table.

“Yes, Baby Girl, what can I do for you?”

“Have you seen or heard from your sister lately?” Shane asked and Kit sat down for a moment and thought about it.

“No, I haven’t come to think of it. I’ve been a bit busy with an increase in business and haven’t made it a point to call her. I was going to try and connect up with her today and see if we could get together and talk. I’ve been a fool for taking sides as I shouldn’t have as the situation was really between you and Bette. I should have remained neutral instead… so I need to apologize to her and make amends.”

“Here, I’ll call her.” Tina said to the others. She rang Bette’s number on her cell and sat there listening to the ring tone. Suddenly her facial expression changed and she looked at the others with wide eyes. “Oh, my, God, no…” She said to her others as tears filled her eyes.

“Tina, what is it?” Kit asked suddenly feeling scared and quite concerned because of Tina’s reaction.

“Her phone… her number doesn’t work… it’s been discontinued!” Tina said as her heart suddenly took a major flip into sadness and regret.

Alice took out her phone and called Bette’s number and had the same thing happen. She looked at Tina with tear-filled eyes. “Oh, God, what did we do?”

Within the week, they would all come to find out that Bette had disappeared with no trace of where to look for her. Within that same time, Tina also received a letter from Bette’s lawyer giving her the house and all the possessions and valuables inside it. A week later, she received the letter with the intention of dissolving their marriage. All she had to do was to sign it and send it back to the lawyer. As she recognized what it was for, the letter slipped out of her hand and landed on the floor. Her body suddenly felt weak as the tears filled her eyes recognizing the consequence of her actions and powerfully and intentionally hurtful words.

    1. Great update. You’re doing a great job with this story. Can hardly wait to see where you take it. I just caught up with the posts. You have laid down some very interesting premises. Great going. Thanks.

    2. Regret is a good motivator at times. They all better start figuring it out, but Bette’s making a new life out there in NY… they might have a hard time getting her back seeing as how they so easily turned their backs on her. Cheers!
