    Chapter 4

Bette didn’t ponder long before she reached for the phone. She dialled Tina’s cell only to be met with the ubiquitous mechanical greeting…

“The cellular customer you are trying to reach is either out of the service area or has turned off the device. Please try again later.”

Bette dialled again, but this time to Tina’s home number. At least she knew she’d be able to leave a message. The tone was about to sound and she struggled momentarily with what to say.

“It’s me. You just left and I know you’re going home to phone the woman Alice set you up with. I would really appreciate it if you phoned me first. Please.”

After spending what seemed an interminable amount of time pacing around the house, Bette’s phone finally rang.

“Hi, you wanted me to call?” Tina’s voice followed Bette’s hello.

“I thought it might be easier for us to talk this way – easier to keep on topic, I mean.”

“Has something changed since I left your house?” Tina asked.

“Nothing substantive,” Bette began. “But I wanted you to know I think you’re right.”

“And what am I right about?”

“I demanded forgiveness and understanding after I had made a mistake,” Bette admitted. “And now I’m asking for more from you than I was willing to give. It’s not fair.”

“It’s good to know you recognize your expectations are different depending on who the actor is,” Tina replied.

“Who is your date with?” Bette asked.

“So you do want to talk about my personal life?” Tina asked.

“It’s just a first date. I can handle that,” Bette responded.

“And again, I’m supposed to tolerate whatever relationship you happen to be pursuing, but I myself shouldn’t think to go beyond an evening out.” Tina couldn’t keep the sarcasm from lacing her words.

“I’m not trying to fight with you. I want to figure out what’s best for both of us. And what’s best for Angelica.”

“I think what’s best for Angelica is to have parents who are honest with each other,” Tina replied quietly.

“I couldn’t agree more,” Bette replied. “Why don’t you tell me about your date tomorrow.”

“I have to phone her Bette,” Tina explained. “We’re supposed to set up a time and place to meet.”

    1. Keep going TD. I love this assertive Tina. She’s kind of throwing Bette off her track. Good for Tina! Bette loves an aggressive Tina especially in bed. PPS.

    2. Jeeze…can Bette be an ass! She hasn’t learned yet? That phone call was no way to get what you want or need, Bette. I knnda hope that you don’t follow the story line exactly…

    3. Hello jks, I love how you are weaving the actual events into your story, it gives you an emotional catalyst to push these characters. Your ability to show that these two woman are on the same wavelength when it comes to each other is just more evident with them both sharing that some intimate memory. I love that Tina is being so forceful with her desire to move on, she isn’t backing down to Bette in anyway and while I think that the idea of her sleeping with the good doctor on the first date was a little “off” for the Tina that we have known I think it just goes to show you how much she really would like to move on with her life. I think Bette needs to seriously end things with Jodi if she really wants to have a shot at getting Tina back, she should leave her and let Tina have her space, she could use this time to see exactly where she does stand with Tina, and see how things develop when they go on their excursion with Angelica, but I think that Bette needs to leave Jodi even if just to gain her backbone to actually fight and win Tina back, but I want them to work for each other, I don’t want to see Bette being the only one that is fighting, Tina needs to do her fair share if it is going to work out for the better, the need to meet each other on equal grounds leaving their (past) relationship in the (past) and moving forward with a new more balanced love and life. I love how you are showing the evolution of both these characters, your ability to layer their emotions showing the hidden depths of their bond, their love is such a rich experience. Absolutely brilliant, Sincerely, JC

    4. I do like the intermingaling of the show and story. Yet, I couldn’t help wondering what they both did when they hung up their respective bedside phones……

    5. i like this, i want more please. i dont think bette is very sure now what may happen. that kick in the ass may be just what she needs. thx. and yes well all be watching tonight at our house, b&tf, bluesf myself and a couple of new comers. its better than last year…. so far. thx

    6. nice chapter… I love this version of Tina both here and in the show. And I like how you and where you are going with the story. I think however Bette needs a kick in the ass as how she has the brass to ask some of the questions she is asking Tina I will never know. As if it was Tina that was asking her the questions I am sure Bette would have not liked it. So I like how Tina is giving as good as she gets. And lacing it with some excellent comments. Please post soon

    7. Since you’re weaving: Time for Bette to kick Jodie’s behind back to Michelangelo’s Sistine Chapel…and preferably in the lake! Marvelous, swim! :)

    8. JKS, I love what you’ve done with this story. I love your dialogue between these two. It’s like they’re circling each other. Great story…I hope you update again soon. I read all 4 chapters today and I am soooo hooked!

    9. As we all know Tina did get into the night time dance with the good doctor. I only wish that the night time dance was done with Bette and not Brenda.

    10. I really like this and love that Bette’s green-eyed monster is showing a little bit. But her arrogance in asking those questions of Tina was just a little too much for me. I thought she was way out of line but Tina gave back to her with her comments, which was great for Tina. PPS

    11. I really love the way you’re writing their conversations. I love how assertive and aggressive Tina is in this story. Can’t wait to read more. PPS

    12. Oooh, burn! Tina 1, Bette 0. Bette was fishing, and I reckon she got more than she bargained for. She’ll have to play her cards right. Tina’s made it clear she’s not going to be bowled over by history, nor is she going to be waiting around. Great chapter, jks. Please keep posting as and when you can. Thanks

    13. You know that old saying, somethings are better off left unsaid. Bette should not have engaged Tina about her potential first date. But I loved the little flashback for some B&T engagement.

    14. Wooooooooooooaaaaaaaaaaaaa! Great storyyyyy! ‘ im loving it’ *doing a little happy dance!* I agree, an assertive Tina is really really great! I love the way she tackles Bette’s questions and make her think abt what she is saying… And I sure love the honesty! justkeeppostingpostingposting ;)
