    White Lie 5

Tina knocked on the door and heard the faint invitation to enter from further inside the house.

“I’m in the back yard,” Bette called as Tina slipped off her shoes.

Tina walked through the house and stepped onto the patio, surprised to see Bette on a lounge chair in a black bikini.

“She’s napping,” Bette explained. “I thought she might wake up when you got here, but nothing so far.” She glanced at the monitor that was at her side, pausing to listen.

“It’s a blessing that she sleeps through so much, but sometimes it’d be nice if she was a little more aware of what goes on around her,” Tina commented.

“You’re not in a hurry are you? Join me.” Bette suggested.

“What’s in the pitcher?” Tina asked as she sat on the edge of the lounge opposite Bette.

“Pomegranate juice and mineral water,” Bette replied. “No I’m not drinking a jug of sangria by myself at one o’clock on a Saturday afternoon. Can I pour you some?”

“Sure,” Tina replied as she leaned back and stretched her legs onto the chaise.

“How was your date the other night?” Bette asked as she poured.

“We had fun. Dinner was amazing,” Tina commented, thinking that might be the end of the conversation.

    “That’s all?”

    “There should be more?”

“Is she a good conversationalist? What does she look like? Do you have things in common?”

Tina laughed at the succession of questions before she started answering them.

“We have a lot in common. She’s an art collector. She unwinds from stressful work days by exercising like a maniac. And Alice was right, she is very attractive.”

    “And she’s a cardiologist?”

“Yeah, and she’s been the impetus behind post surgical exercise rehabilitation programs at several inner city recreational facilities in the last couple of years.”

“So she has a philanthropic side as well,” Bette said, sipping from her glass. “Did she discuss her collection at all?”

“I saw it actually,” Tina replied. “She’s just starting, but it is impressive. A lot of up and coming female artists for the most part.”

“Oh, you went to her place.”

“It was so close to the restaurant,” Tina started to explain and then stopped. She didn’t need to explain anything to Bette. “It was a nice evening.”

    1. Hmm. What an adorable family day. I liked that you have Bette in somewhat of the position that S1 Tina was in.. only in a relationship with less bonds to tie them. Its something that I think it reflected on the show. How awkward is Bette meeting Brenda going to be?

    2. Nice way to spend the afternoon.happy that bette is being honest with tina about how she feels, and now understands how tina felt all those years ago.. :)

    3. I love that they were having a little bit of family time. It seem like Bette was a bit jealous about Tina’s date with Brenda. I hope that these two women end up with each other because they deserve each other. Thanks for the update JKS.

    4. It’s great to see them spending time together. Maybe they can get to the point where they can discuss wanting to be together again. Actually Bette has to tell Tina what she wants. Last week it looked as though Jodi is beginning to see the writing on the wall and do is Bette. PPS

    5. hmmm…. what will the rest of the afternoon bring??? what a lovely afternoon. swimsicle, i got that. its not a not-fit-for-humans day but dayum weve had a lot of snow, and more coming. love this story, love your words, just love everything about it. thx

    6. Well written and completely realistic as per usual. It really is great to be able to pop on the site and read another gem from you. Thanks so much for taking the time. I hope the weather warms up a bit soon!

    7. If I was Bette I would be a lot jealous of Dr.Boobs. she is a pretty lady and a lot younger than Bette. Can Tina keep up with a toddler and a young chick. we will find out thanks

    8. Thank you, swim!!! That was really a marvelous surprise…to come home from a hard day at work tasting wine (heheh)… and to see these lovely pages waiting to soothe and entertain me. When I finished reading, I noticed I got a chill…which means the story and its venue, poolside in the warm California sun, musta warmed my bones while I was in enjoying the read. Hope it helped you to warm up while visualizing the scene as you wrote. Thanks again for another lovely and splendidly-written chapter.

    9. A wonderful story. It seems to softly pull you into a day in this pair’s life. I really enjoyed the way you captured a moment in time… please continue the story…
