“Nothing happened Kit, we just talked and she told me something very painful about her recent history with her former boyfriend and the bottom line is they were very mean and hurtful to each other and then he suddenly died… and right after their final break up… after she told him to go away for good” Bette completed with a defeated expression in her face.

“Holy shit… now that’s sad, very sad. Poor Tina, and what did you do?”

“Well I stayed and watched her sleep the rest of the night and I had to go in the morning. I had to finish the fucking paper work for the transfer of the last two of dad’s companies… you know all that stuff has been taking a lot of my time. And then I called her and arranged for her to get a package from me, containing something that holds a special meaning for both of us… and I told her I would be here waiting for her… If she’s willing to give this a chance…” Bette was slowly starting to hyperventilate again, which at least meant she was still breathing.

Now it was Kit’s turn to be speechless… and indeed she was. This did not go unnoticed by Bette.

“And you choose to shut up now? You do have an amazing timing, has anyone ever told you that?”

“Well… it’s just… I don’t think… I…”

“Ok now I’m really worried, did I fuck it up somehow?”

“No… no… that’s not it, I just… again baby sis… You have it bad, and for the record I think she’s gonna show up, but Bette if she doesn’t give her time. People react in the weirdest of ways to gentle or nice or thoughtful gestures, so please promise me that even if she doesn’t come tonight you will still be patient with her. Ok?”

Bette gave it a thought for a moment, and realized that Kit was right. Even if Tina didn’t show up in that moment, there was still a chance she might later. People suffer in different ways and they find closure in different places and different times. And Bette had promised herself from the beginning not to put extra pressure on Tina, so why now? Kit was absolutely right, she had to wait. Not just an hour or two, but as long as it took because Bette knew that their connection was there. She felt it and she was pretty sure Tina felt something too.
