Wings of an Angel – Bette and Tina – Chapter 9

There was no shelter for Bette; no secured place to run away from this nightmare.  Bette frantically searched for anything that she could use as a barrier from the impending flight of falling debris as three little words suddenly jumped into her conscious mind, ‘Just be careful’.  “I’m not leaving you, T”.  Bette’s eyes came into contact with the wooden door.  She swiftly ran towards it and with renewed strength dragged the door to the corner next to the compartment; to be close to Kyle.  Just as she climbed her weary soul underneath the wooden frame, the ceiling exploded releasing huge borders of rock, steel, shattered glass and metal.  As the crypt keeper continues to rain it’s fury of demise towards the basement, the collapse is causing a major strain on the weakening rotten door; for it would not be able to take much more weight.  The constant heavy pressure from the debris kept attacking the human barricade as if death was kindly knocking for permission to enter the doorway of Bette’s broken soul.  The persistent battle between war and peace caused the door to suddenly crack horizontally in half; exposing Bette to the thunderous reign of lightning terror.  Bette mentally whispers a prayer and as she closes her eyes on the final syllable, boulders of rocks careen freely through the opening crashing onto Bette’s body; slamming her whole torso forcefully against the hardened floor.  Bette is knocked unconscious as the crimson tide of her life force seeps from a wounded head.

From the demolition tower, the crew watched in awe of the wondrous destruction of the aging building; observing the final wreckage of a fallen king and his kingdom.  A cloud of orange dust floating up towards the gates of heaven could be seen for miles; a dust that could be carrying the gentle karma of two fighting spirits.  John announces his arrival by thrashing the door open making it bang loudly against the wall.  “Mike, didn’t you hear me trying to reach you over the radio!”  Mike looked in the direction of the raised voice and smiled as he saw John approaching him.  Looking rejuvenated and pleased about the outside performance, Mike grinned at his business partner of eight years and stated, “John.  That was some blast, huh.  I believe that was the best one yet”.  John lowered his head in defeat and not able to look him in the eye asks, “Where is your radio Mike?”  Bewildered by John’s question, Mike says, “It’s were I always keep it; strapped to my hip”.  John raises his head and his eyes reveal a hideous nightmare that is about to be journeyed to the ends of the earth.  John walks towards his best friend and takes the two way radio out to examine it.  “Look at it”.  Mike does as requested and immediately notices his mistake; it was never turned on.  Mike’s voice is laced with confusion and concern, “John?  What happened?  What the fuck happened?”

Meanwhile at the clinic, Tina was holding a teams meeting with her staff to discuss the grant that was awarded to fund their DNA project for the next three years; a grant that was to be utilized for the discovery of a potential cure.  The meeting had been in session for almost two hours and the only presentation left was to be given by Tina.  As Tina approached the blackboard she felt a cloak of dark shadows interrupt her train of thought; she paused.  The cup of coffee began to shiver in her hand, she was having difficulty in breathing, her legs started to shake, her body felt weak.  Tina’s emotional connection with Bette was severed; she trembled from the cold that was surrounding her heart.  Samantha reacted quickly to Tina’s sudden change in demeanor.  “Tina?  What’s wrong?”  With worried eyes that were cascading numerous tears, “Something has happened to Bette, Sam.  I can’t feel her.  I can’t feel her anymore”.  Tina faints.
