“Obviously Callie can only explain so much she’s not a cardiothoracic surgeon she’s a general surgeon, so what’s happening is Jess has an infection, it’s unknown what’s caused it but it’s obstructing the blood flow getting out of Jess’s heart and it’s damaged the aortic valve. So what I need to do is go in and replace that. If I don’t do it then it could be life threatening and will get a lot worse.” Dr Yang explained

“Then do it” Jess mumbled

“Sorry Jess I thought you were asleep”

“I was” Jess said gently opening her eyes

Carmen got up and sat on the edge of Jess’s bed taking her hand.

“So what exactly will you do?”

“Pretty much the same as I did with your Mama”

“I’m a bit behind there; I was being temperamental with her at that point”

Everyone laughed.

“Oh you’re that twin”

“That be me” Jess coughed

“Okay so what I will do is I’ll make an incision in your chest so I can get access to your heart, Your heart will be stopped and put on bypass…what that means is a machine will do exactly what your heart does for you…I’ll fix the valve and your heart will be restarted” Dr yang explained

“There are some risks as your aware” Dr Yang looked at Bette and Tina

“Yeah I don’t want to know the risks, you’ll set my wife over the edge” Jess said

“Dr Torres will be in the OR with me along with some other doctors due to your epilepsy” Dr Yang explained

“When you going to do this?” Carmen asked

“I have an opening tomorrow morning” Dr Yang stated “We’d like to get it done quickly”

“Let’s do it” Jess said

“How long will it take?” Carmen asked

“About 5 hours”

“Jesus Christ” Carmen closed her eyes shaking her head

“Hey I’ll be fine” Jess smiled at her wife

“You better be” Carmen looked at Jess

“Stop looking all sad” Jess said

“I’ll leave you too it, thanks Jess, I’ll get the consent form brought to you”

“Thanks” Tina and Bette both said at the same time

“Okay were going to go home, get changed and showered and let everyone know what’s going on” Tina said
