You break it, you replace it – Chapter 9

Alice listened to the words of blame that Tina had only for herself and was at a loss to find a phrase, just a scrap of something to help take away the pain and this misdirected guilt.

“I could have stopped this from happening” Tina persisted

“No” Alice said firmly “You couldn’t stop what happened, none of us could”

“Yeah I could. It was simple, all I had to do was tell her the truth. The truth would have saved her. If I told her how much I loved her…how my life loses meaning without her, then she never would have needed to go. I sent her away, I did this to her Alice”

“No, you didn’t” Alice shook her head determinedly “It was an accident, it just happened, you’re not to blame for this”

“Now she’s gone and I can’t tell her what I feel, she’ll never know”

Alice thought back to her conversation with Bette earlier that morning and struggled to know whether it was the right thing to tell Tina in this moment.

“Tina, Bette knew how much you loved her, she’s always known”

Silence descended as each woman was left to her own thoughts. Alice knew that she did need to tell Tina about her conversation with Bette but it would have to wait for another day. One day they would be able to think about Bette with less pain and that would be the time to tell her. Tina began to focus on the tasks that needed to be done, even this was a welcome distraction from the guilt of making such a narrow escape when Bette had not.

“I need to call Kit” She stated

“She’s out of town Tina, Shane’s trying to reach her” Alice informed reaching over to tuck a stray strand of hair behind Tina’s left ear

“*****…I’d better call Melvin” She sighed “Hi Melvin, your pride and joy was flying to Paris because I wouldn’t…”

“No Tina” Alice interjected “Don’t do this to yourself. You weren’t supposed to be on that plane. Melvin can wait, you don’t have to do this tonight. You’re exhausted, why don’t I find you something to eat and then you should try and get some rest”

    1. That is a relief she isn’t dead. This story is SO GOOD I am anxiously awaiting your next post. I am hoping Tina and Bette will be able to have the right conversation that will lead to a reconcilation

    2. Amazing! Even though we ‘knew’ you could not kill Bette off, you had us wondering the whole time which is really a work of art on your part. It took all day for Bette to come home, without a call, and her entrance was touching. I sort of wish Alice had stayed to maybe walk Tina out to Bette in order to dull the shock. How is Bette going to greet Tina without scaring the bejesus out of her :) Great story!!!

    3. Okay I have just read your entire story so far. Wonderful Story, hell it’s awesome. My heart is beating like a freight train. Can’t wait to read what you have in store for us next.

    4. I am still trying to get my breathe back. I hope Tina realizes as did bette you only live once and mistakes happen and we need to look at the Big Picture for what they really mean and continue with Life. Please post soon. thanks
