    You (Part the Fifth)

“Okay, well, as long as you’re feeling all right. I know the biopsy took a lot out of you, and I really don’t think it’d be wrong to skip this tournament.” She said it as lightly as she could, but Lara couldn’t keep the worry out of her voice. Dana hadn’t been sleeping well the past few nights, and Lara had found her pacing through the living room at 3am…again. She hated the fact that no matter how hard she tried, Dana wouldn’t talk to her. And now she was supposed to be leaving for the Mercedes Challenge on no sleep and a lot of worries, as the biopsy results wouldn’t be back for a few days at least.

Biting back one of the angry comments she’d been throwing at Lara lately, Dana smiled and took her hand instead. “I’ll be fine. It’s my own fault that I’m making myself worry. I mean, I don’t even have the results back yet, so what’s to worry about? I’m just making myself nuts, that’s all. Don’t worry about it, it’s mostly just nervousness about the tournament anyway.”

Lara knew that wasn’t it, but she didn’t want to upset Dana. It seemed like that was pretty much all she’d been doing lately, and she hated it. They’d always gotten along so well, and it seemed that anymore, nothing she said or did was good enough to fend off Dana’s ire. She knew it wasn’t exactly personal, but she couldn’t help feeling like a failure regardless. What good’s a girlfriend if all she does is make you angry? It was frustrating, but using all the strength she had, Lara decided not to pursue it. Dana was already stressed out enough.

“Okay. Well, I know you’ll do just fine in your first few matches, and I’ll be out there in a few days to watch you take on Ivanova. You’re gonna be great, baby,” she said as she leaned in for a kiss.

Dana returned it, although her mind was a million miles away, trying to get herself ready for the first match. She was nervous, and she couldn’t deny how tired she was feeling. Still, she’d played through pain and fatigue hundreds of times, so she figured she’d be fine. She was more worried about how her attitude toward Lara had been shifting lately, really…and while she didn’t have the time or energy to work on it now, she was hoping some good old fashioned tennis exertion would help her clear her mind a little.

    1. I really LOVE this story. I WISH it was S3…it’s so perfect. I just want and more and and more and it’s so sad that I know how it’s going to end. (Or at least by the show’s standard) I feel bad for Lara cause we all know she knows. Alice and Dana are meant to be, and it really sucks that Lara has to get hurt because of that. I feel for her. I don’t know how or when they are going to get together but I really hope it’s soon. They need eachother. Love like that just doesn’t end, it’s hard to ever make it go away. Although it really is awesome that they’ve become best friends again, or are at least working at it, I hope their hearts find their way back to eachother…great job, I can’t wait for the next update! You’re fabulous!

    2. First off, I’m a little embarrassed. I can’t believe that I didn’t recognize the “bi” thing. I think I try too hard to block Season 3 from my mind as much as possible. An Easter Peep? Haha. I must say, I’ve never seen Lara that way. That cracked me up though. Great update. I really enjoyed it. The “I love you’s” seem to be slipping out a bit more freely, huh? That’s cool with me. I have to agree about the Billie Jean King comment :) I love when Dana plays tennis. I wish we could have seen more of it. I suppose it could be a little hard with Erin Daniels not actually playing tennis, and being so little. I love tennis. All this Dana and tennis talk makes me want to go play. The weather is too crappy here though. Freak snow storms in October…who would’ve thought? It cut down my tennis time. Anyway…apparently I ramble too. I love how you’re getting Helena more and more involved. It seems more realistic than what you mentioned earliar about Helena suddenly flying Dana on her private jet. I also love the fact that Alice is being so supportive for Dana, even though it’s clear that it’s painful. I’m really hoping you’re going to change the ending of season 3. I know they can’t all be “happily ever after’s”, but I’m still hoping. Keep up the great writting. I really love it, and can’t wait to see what’s going to happen.

    3. Excellent update, and I love your take on moments and details we recognize on the show, very well done. Especially Dana whispering to Alice that she was OK while giving her that hug. Yes, you are definitely giving Lara waaaay more texture (especially as she senses all is not well in LaraDanaLand..) and it’s really enjoyable to read. I like the interplay between the three of them. Keep it up! PPS!

    4. So, okay…just how far down this road are you going to go? And won’t you please consider getting them back on track before chemo starts? Really great stuff. PPS

    5. Wow,ur a great writer babe! Im glad your going with the direction i said,( youll get the readers babe) LA here we come, better watch out ladies!!! HA PPS

    6. Ok…I just caught up with this story. I didn’t want to relive S3 again. But after scanning this story, I caved in, read it and now I’m hooked. Although it’s sometimes still painful to see the hurt they’re going through and the awkward moments that comes out of it, I really like your take on it. I would like to imagine that this storyline was also running next to the original storyline of S3 but IC had to cut all the scnes, because there was no time or no budget to actually air it. ;)
