“Nah, I don’t think so. I mean, thanks and everything, but what am I gonna say to the guy? ‘Hey, Lance, how’s it going, riding around on your bike with one ball? Does Sheryl ever play for the other team? If so, give me her number, huh?’ I mean, really. I think it’s better for me to stay outta that can of worms,” Alice replied. Dana nodded, seeing the sense in this, until it hit her.

“Wait, you think Sheryl Crow’s hot?”

“Um, yeah. She’s fucking gorgeous, and she’s got a great voice. I definitely wouldn’t throw her out of bed for eating crackers.” Alice stopped and looked closely at Dana, then turned to Shane. “Dana looks a lot like her, don’t you think? I mean, moreso when her hair was longer, but she still does.”

“Holy shit, you’re right!” Shane exclaimed, standing up and looking down at Dana. “I always thought you looked like somebody famous.”

“I am famous,” Dana muttered, but the comparison flattered her regardless.

“Yeah, but I mean somebody else. Shit, that’s been bugging me for years. You do, Dana. You could be sisters.”

Dana just shrugged, suddenly feeling very sleepy. Alice noticed, and helped her off the couch. “You good, Shaney?” she asked, unfolding the blanket for her friend.

“Yeah, I’ll be fine. You kids get some sleep, and don’t have any dreams. And don’t wake me up by fucking, okay? I’m being nice here, leaving my baby brother home with his friend just to smoke weed with you two losers.”

“I know, and I love you,” Alice told her, leaning in for a hug as Dana fought to keep her eyes open.

“Don’t have any dreams,” Shane whispered, hugging her back. “Night, Dane.”

“G’night,” Dana mumbled. She was barely aware of Alice helping her to the bed, and she was asleep the second her head hit the pillow. Alice was quick to wrap her in an embrace and join her in slumber, and for the first time in weeks, she didn’t have even the ghost of a dream.

ETA: I’m not sure about continuing this thing. When I read the more recent stuff, it sounds kinda stupid to me. I might have already taken this thing as far as it can go. I’m not definite on it right now, but it seems like readership’s gone down a bit. I know people are busy and all, but…if the readers I have aren’t feeling it as much anymore, what’s the point in continuing? I just don’t think I’m feeling it as much anymore…and I’m starting to think the story is suffering for it. I have some ideas of things to do if I continue, but I’m sort of afraid it’ll wind up sounding even more stupid if I prolong the thing anymore. I don’t know. Please let me know if it’d be okay to end this within the next couple chapters, and if not, where can I possibly take it that won’t sound retarded?

    1. Yay, I do believe I’m first! I totally always thought Erin Daniels had a Sheryl Crow-esque look to her, but I thought I was the only one. I loved this update, it was really adorable and so well written. And yeah, I shuddered at the thought of them listening to Mariah Carey.

    2. Alice’s lack of sense of reality is a bit unsettling, but understandable. But getting AlShaDane back together is way cool. Dana eating the rest of the pizza was funny after she told Alice not to buy all garbage at the grocery store, haha. The Ari storyline is growing on me, as it shows Dana’s strength and compassion. Yet I don’t get the backlash against Mariah. I for one felt that for once Dana should get the entertainment of her choice. Circles, twas a nice touch!

    3. Alright, I’m a lurker and never posted because frankly I have too many website accounts and will lose track. But after reading the note at the bottom of this chapter I was forced to sign up just to beg you to somehow continue it.I check for updates pretty much every second day, which sounds creepy but it just shows how much I love this story. I refuse to watch L word after our beloved little ms fairbanks was taken from us and aside from watching season 1 and 2 over and over again this gives me something to actually look foward to. This is the only way danish love continues for me, and to have it taken away again would be toooo tragic. So if you need to end it, do so. But I’m praying you keep going because I don’t know where else to turn to for danish satisfaction.

    4. I love your writing and really enjoy this story. There has never been a bad chapter (I should know — when you posted the latest, I went back and re-read the whole thing). I hope you continue.

    5. Loved Loved Loved this update…Dana high classic…I read your note, I think there are alot places you can take this…but you are the writer with the vision…do what you feel is right…But I love this story…it’s an addiction what can I say!!Thank You…PPS!

    6. ok im re-commenting b/c i have 3 things to say: 1. Yes, we do rule! (very cool timing on both our parts with the post)2. I look forward to your re-comment later. 3. I’m still shuddering over the thought of Mariah.
