You (Part the Nineteenth)
"Hey kiddo," she said softly, holding Dana’s hand. "Relax, okay? You don’t need to wake up until you feel ready. They’re giving you a lot of good stuff through your IVs, so just chill out and let it work, all right? I came as soon as Anna called me in. Everything’s all right, you’re gonna be okay if you just keep hanging on. Alice is back in your room waiting for you to wake up, but she wants you to sleep as much as you can first. She’s gonna sleep too, so don’t force anything. Just breathe and remember that we all love you, okay? I gotta go, they won’t let me stay in here very long because you really need to rest, but I think you can hear me so I wanted to come in and say hi before I take off. Everybody wants to see you when you’re feeling better. I’ll come back soon, I promise. You just get some rest and keep fighting, okay? I love you, babe." Shane stopped talking before she cried, and gave Dana as tight a hug as she thought she could without hurting her. With a lingering kiss to her friend’s forehead, she started to leave the room when Irwin and Sharon walked in, looking terrified.
"It’s okay, she’s stable," Shane told them, and they both relaxed visibly. "She’s not good, but she’s not bad considering everything."
"It’s just a waiting game now," Irwin stated. He hadn’t spoken to any professionals since the nurse had let him know that his daughter’s heart had stopped, but he knew the score, and Dr. Shapiro had already alluded to the fact.
Shane had to look away to keep from sobbing. "Yeah," she answered, because as much as she wanted to reassure these people that their daughter was going to be fine, she didn’t have the energy or the courage to give them false hope.
She was surprised when they both hugged her. At first she thought it was just because they both needed someone to hug, but after a while she realized that they cared about her and saw her as an ally, someone who was helping their daughter and therefore deserved their affection. It made her feel a little guilty since she honestly felt she wasn’t doing much, but she’d always been honest with them when they asked about Dana’s condition. She knew it had to be tough not to get the information firsthand.

hi muted – i havent commented on this story until now but i wanted to say THANKYOU so much for writing it…all the gaps have been filled in Ilenes disastrous version and my favourite character has survived! I love this story so much, I search daily for the updates with baited breath! I hope it will continue through Season 4 and beyond! Seeing clips of the new season without Dana is heartwrenching and makes me damn angry she’s not there – but hey, she may be in your fabulous version eh??I await the next instalment, long live Danish and long live yourself! x
How did I not know that I fell behind on this story?! I am slacking, but it’s nice to come around and find this lovely chapter waiting. You know how much I adore Dana and Alice and I am thrilled to read such a wonderfully inspiring and hopeful story. I want to see them dance again, can you do that MT?! xoxox
You are just killing me with this story & I can’t get enough. It is so damn good & so well written … you completely have me on the edge of my seat.
Beautiful. Thank you. PPS
Awesome…Just Awesome…I love Helena…Shane is great! This is so damn good…Keep Up The Great Work!!!
Okay, so last night I was dealing with a major bout of insomnia and turned on the computer and saw your post at 3:45 in the morning and was so excited that I had something to do while I couldn’t sleep. And I left a comment that probably made no sense, but I thoroughly enjoyed it nonetheless. However, I must have been more comatose than I thought b/c apparently I didn’t do it properly and it isn’t here now…so anyway, let me paraphrase: This chapter is so awesome, just like the rest of the story. I’m loving your story so much that I’ve forgotten about the awfulness that was season 3 and your story has completely become my reality. I’m fully content believing that this is what really happened with Alice and Dana. That may have been the most delusional thing I’ve ever said, but I’m really okay with that. Seriously though, you rock and this story is absolutely beautiful!
I’m totalyl with swismiss! I’m happy t black out season 3 and go with this, so no pressure or anything but you’re practically writing season 4 for all of us :D This was soooo good I almost cried, I’ve never cried at a fanfic before but if you keep going this way with all the emotion I may just do that. So now you gotta sit and write more cause I need my fix too!! xxx
I read this what seems like a while ago, but like swismiss, I was completely out of it, so I’m back again now. :-) You must get tired of us saying great chapter, but it was. lol I love the friendship between Helena and Alice. They are fiercely loyal to each other, and Helena is just on the outside enough not to have divided loyalties when it comes to the rest of the group. If Dana didn’t survive, I wouldn’t mind seeing Alice with Helena – but it might be better for Alice not to go the best friend route again.
