Regarding this particular episode, Jennifer explained why it was so interesting to play. “They are two women from two different generations who are in the military. My character, Major Jones, who kind of thinks within the parameters of the institution and all the culturalized patriarchy that it implies. And then you have this other character, the younger character, the staff sergeant played by Trojan who just really thinks in terms of justice, plain and simple and I thought it was interesting to play that kind of complexity … This is a woman who’s really given everything to her career and is really just a couple of years out for extrication had learned to play the game by certain rules and had learn to succeed as a woman under certain parameters, under certain rules and here comes this younger woman who said, ‘No, it’s not okay.’ Major Stone knows it’s not okay but she also in some way is trying to protect her from another atrocity that might weigh her down in a long and complex maze of due process, which isn’t very much a due process at all, it would appear. In some ways she feels like a mother figure to this young girl.”

Trojan Bellisario, who’s playing Lauren, is a young up and coming actress, daughter of “NCIS” producer Donald Bellisario. She’s been acting since she was three years old and has been playing Spencer Hasting on “Pretty Little Liars” since 2009.
Jennifer said about her young colleague, “I loved working with Trojan. I think she is so focused and so disciplined. We really had a great time and really supported one another through what was emotionally very difficult material and very exciting material for an actor. I think as actors we like the pain. There’s something wonderful when you’re able to go down into that darkness and experience that darkness for the story sake, for the character sake and for anybody’s benefit who might be watching it and might need to see that story. In that way it was exciting and that pain is gratifying. I was just excited to come to work every day and I was sad that it ended so quickly because each episode that we shot was only a day. There were three episodes so really only three days of work and it was really exciting because you feel like you’re truly collaborating. Jon and Rodrigo and Lesli are all very wonderful collaborators. They make you feel like your opinion matters and that everybody is just there to really contribute something valuable.”
That collaboration and certain freedom come in handy when, unlike on a TV series, most of the web-series’ characters don’t have a backstory. Jennifer said with laughter, “I usually will make up stuff myself and I don’t necessarily consult the writers because I don’t want them to contradict me. But if ‘Lauren’ continues then Jay and I will have to sit down and really sort it out. You have (freedom) to a certain degree on any kind of series because often times not even the writers know what the full backstory is or where it’s going to go. You are all kind of in the dark a little bit.”
