    Chapter 14

    The next week, Alice and Bette are having coffee at the Planet.

    (Alice) So, have you spoken to Tina?

    (Bette) No, and I don’t expect to, aside from seeing one another at the occasional event

    (Alice smiles) So you don’t want to talk game plan?

    Bette shakes her head and smiles.

    (Bette) Al, whilst I find your 180 on this fascinating, and impressive

    (Alice smiles) Thank you

    (Bette) I think it’s time we talk about something else

    Alice considers her for a moment.

    (Alice) OK, you’re saying you want to move past this?

    Bette nods as she has a sip of her coffee.

    (Bette) I am

    (Alice) You’re sure? Because from what I saw between the two of you…

    Bette raises her hand to stop her from continuing.

    (Bette) Al, seriously. Let’s move on, shall we?

    Alice looks at her for another moment and then shrugs.

    (Alice) Well if that’s the case we need to get you back out there. Let’s fix you up with someone

    Bette rolls her eyes.

    (Bette) Since when do I need your help in that regard? I already have a date organised for Thursday

    (Alice smiles) Well ok then, good for you. Anyone I know?

    Bette looks at her pointedly.

    (Bette) No

     

    Thursday afternoon, Bette’s office. Andrew and Bette are coming to the end of a meeting discussing the recent purchase of a larger gallery space, funded by Andrew’s foundation. They have been finalising details and Bette will begin to move across over the coming weeks.

    (Andrew) Well I can’t tell you how happy we are to be involved Bette. The space you’ve chosen is fantastic, and I’m excited to see what you do with it

    (Bette smiles) Thank you Andrew, I’m glad to hear it

    Andrew looks at his watch.

    (Andrew) Well I best be off, I have to get across town for another meeting

    They both stand and shake hands before Andrew gathers his coat and briefcase and makes his way to the door.

    Andrew pauses in the doorway and looks back at her.

    (Andrew) Do you like jazz?

    Bette stops and looks at him, confused by the question.

    (Bette) Ah, I do

    (Andrew) There’s this exclusive set tonight at the Haste Lounge. I don’t know much about it, it’s not really my thing, but it was a nightmare to get tickets

    3. Another post, thank you. So the angst begins. Why is Tina going to marry someone she doesn’t love? What is the hold between her and Andrew? Damn, that fine Bette Porter is getting her heart broken. I don’t know. This is the least likely Tibette match up yet! PPS
