    Chapter 22

    Chapter 22

A few days later, Bette and Tina are seated together in a cosy, dimly lit restaurant. They have ordered their meals and chat to each other over a glass of wine.

(Bette) So how’s work? Is everything still as crazy as that day I dropped past?

Tina raises her eyebrows and sighs.

(Tina) It’s starting to calm down, finally

Bette nods and then looks at her for a moment.

(Bette) I’d like to hear more about it, about what you do. I guess we’ve never really spoken about it

    Tina smiles.

(Tina) Well, I won’t bore you with the details now, but sure. I’ll tell you all about it sometime

Bette smiles and looks downwards, playing with her wine stem.

(Tina) And the gallery. I must come and see it again

Bette looks up at her and nods.

    (Bette) Of course, come anytime

They both have a sip of wine. They fall into silence for a moment and Tina looks over at her. She frowns and takes a breath before speaking.

    (Tina) Are you nervous?

Bette looks at her and cringes.

    (Bette) I am

    Tina smiles.

    (Bette) Are you?

    Tina laughs and nods.

    (Tina) Yes, very

    They smile at each other.

    (Tina) It’s silly though, right?

Bette nods and raises her eyebrows.

(Bette) Yes, how many times have we had dinner before? Why does this feel so much like a first date?

Tina smiles and looks at her for a moment.

(Tina) Well maybe it’s good for it to feel that way

Bette looks at her and Tina shrugs.

(Tina) If we’re starting everything over again I think maybe it should feel like this

Bette smiles at her for a moment and then nods.

(Bette) I think you’re probably right

    They smile at each other.

(Tina) Just to check though, you’re not searching for an avenue to escape are you?

Bette laughs and looks at her affectionately.

(Bette) No. Do you have a friend lined up to call you away to an emergency?

Tina sighs and shakes her head.

(Tina) I never remember to organise that

They smile at each other. A member of the wait staff stops past the table with their meals and they both pause to thank them. Once they are alone again Bette looks back to Tina.

Such a wonderful and creative story. The sadness comes from the situation. You have captured their feelings so well, Tina’s past self was able to articulate her present self so well. And Bette, well, what a difficult situation and what a realization that she came to thanks to the past Tina. Bette needed the motivation the understanding to fight for the present Tina and the past Tina reminded her so well of their love for each other.. Enjoying this story very much, cant wait for the final chapter and what you have for us next.

    2. A most creative and credible story written about the background of the split and reconciliation of this couple, notwithstanding the magic of hypnosis :) Eager for the finale, and hopeful to find what you may next craft after tales of a multiverse, travelogue, DC politics, and a blonde sitting at the bar (!)

    3. Very nice first date after finding out that Tina remembers. Tina’s suspicion of that Bette loves the old Tina verses the now Tina seems strange in a way but normal in another. Strange in that both are the same person. Normal in that the 2002 Tina was the original that Bette fell in love with many years ago and the now had much different experiences. Bette’s response was absolutely perfect.

I am a little concerned about these two in that they still need to sort through all the baggage and determine what needs to be addressed and what has been resolved. There are still residual feelings and obstacles which need to be resolved. It is obvious that the want to get back together, But a few romps in the hay will not resolve everything. It will take time and communication and understanding to put that to rest and move on with their lives.

Good story… look forward to the next (final) chapter.

    4. Hi katynd. Thank you for this very unique story. It was very well-written and entertaining. I did feel heartbroken for Bette in the previous chapter after she visited Tina at work and she was so dismissive and acted as if she didn’t remember. I’m glad you turned it around in the next chapter that she was faking but still it was cruel. I was thinking it would have been nice for Tina to write Bette a letter while she was her 2002 self so that in the case she didn’t remember at least Bette would have known that the feelings were genuine and what Tina felt and said in her 2002 version was real. Anyway you did a great job in their conversations, expressing their feelings and working their way back together. It was a nice way to end it and looking forward to the final chapter.
