    6 Months- chapter 14

Alice parked her car and walked slowly into The Planet.  Shane and Dana were already there, waiting with worried expressions on each of their faces.  Alice tiredly sat down, pulling the letter out from her purse and laying it on the table.  Both women looked at the envelope, questions flashing across their faces, but neither spoke.

“Dana,” Alice started off, “you had asked me if I had heard back from Bette, and I told you that I had not.  That turned out not to be the case.”

“What?” Dana asked, “She did call back?”

Alice looked at the envelope on the table and then looked at each of the girls, waiting for them to realize that the letter was from Bette.

“That” she nodded at the envelope “is how I heard back from Bette.  But it is actually not back from Bette, as I am sure that she never got my message.”

“I don’t understand” Shane said.  “Why would Bette write you a letter when she lives like half a mile from of all of us?”

“That would be because Bette no longer lives half a mile from of all of us” Alice said.

“What, she moved into another place and that is why she hasn’t called, because she has been too busy?”

“Yes and no Dana” Alice responded.

“So Al, are you going to friggin’ say it or what?  So ***** what that Bette moved to another part of town.  It’s not like we don’t have cars.  We can go see her you know!” Shane said angrily.

“No, I don’t know” Alice sadly said.

“What the ***** Al?  Why are you so upset over Bette getting a new place?  So she is a little further from us than she was.  Big ***** deal!  I mean, how far can she be to get you this upset.  The Valley?” Shane asked.

    “New York” Alice whispered.

“What did you just say?” Dana asked.

    “New York” Alice softly repeated.

There was complete silence at the table.  Both Dana and Shane just stared at Alice, willing themselves to have misunderstood.

    “I don’t under-” Dana began.

    “Don’t” Alice said.  “Just listen.”

    2. As much as I agree with the other comments, I will try to patiently wait for Bette’s letter and Tina’s reaction because I want to read it all together in a full (long) chapter. All of our comments are a testament to your great writing! We are addicted to your fanfic :)
