    Bette and Tina Go Take a Break from the Drama.

    Bette sniffed and felt another set of tears made their appearance. She cried for the nights shed spent longing for this woman. For the heartache and pain shed felt. For the scars that had been left and the confusion now fluttering around her mind.

     

    As she felt Bettes tears, Janice shed her own drops of remorse. Remorse for the smiles shed missed. Remorse for the Birthdays and Christmases that had passed in her absence. Remorse for the mess shed made of her childs emotions and the strain on the young womans spirit that was so very visible on this Thursday morning.

     

    I love you, Bette. I love you so much, sweetheart., Janice whispered, as she held Bette close to her heart.

     

    Bette was too choked up to speak and simply nodded in response. And for the first time in a long time, she really believed her mothers words were true.

    Three years had passed since Bette had been left sobbing in the living room, the smell of her mothers scent still hanging in the air. In that time, a hardened knot of distrust and contempt had lodged itself in Bettes heart and it wasnt going to disappear after one extremely draining and emotional heart-to-heart.

     

    Trust and respect are strong words. The very mention of them conjures up images of wholesome goodness that our society has conditioned us to believe represent integrity. Trust and respect are those brilliant badges of honor which are bestowed upon us after we have established a track record of performance that is in line with the qualities these terms represent. They arent simply given away because they have been requested. No. These badges must be earned by establishing our credibility and living up to a set of standards that encourages those around us to have faith in the quality of our character. These noble rewards can take years to nurture and cultivate and only moments to damage or destroy.

     

    When Janice chose to walk out of her daughters life, the reserve of trust and respect that Bette had stored for her mother over the course of her young life, had slowly begun to dissipate. There was an initial large drop in supply created by witnessing her mothers adulterous ***** act, and Janices subsequent departure had consumed an even larger portion of the teenagers reserve. And as the minutes, hours, days, and years marking Janices absence continued to pass, each unit of time took with it an additional portion of these reserves. The depreciating quantities of trust and respect had failed to be refilled and finally, after three years of steady withdrawals, Bettes reserves were empty.

    7. MTS, it’s official!! I am obsessed with this story. I typically print this story out and read it at work (damn internet security at work will not let me access this site). So this morning, I was all excited to see another post from you. I printed out the story, got distracted, and forgot it!!! Ugggghhhhh!!! I was cussing myself all day, and couldn’t wait to get home and read this chapter. As always, it was well worth the wait and anticipation. You are amazing!!

    20. I hope Grandma, Aunty, or dad didn’t happen to see the little lover’s kiss. Just went to my first Pride this past Saturday. We had a festival after and the feeling of freedom permeated the day. Couples holding hands, dancing, and kissing marked the wonderful event. Thanks for your story MTS!!!

      I just speak from the heart. Your story is just magnificent. I marvel at this masterpiece every time you add a chapter. The characters live and breathe in this realistic and believable universe you have created. The feeling and emotions are tangible as every twist and turn pulls Bette and Tina apart before tenderly re-uniting them. New characters have joined as if they have always been integral to the saga and provided much pleasure, excitement and distress. In a lesser writer’s hands, this could have been ham-fisted however in your capable and talented hands in has been seamless.
      I adore this break away from the despair and drama of Bette’s family and her anguished relationship with her mother. Tina is there; a constant force to care, share and protect her lover.
      Can’t wait for your next installment as will spent the rest of the day with a big grin and a happy song in my head.

    28. Great chapter as all your chapters are. I like how Tina didn’t let Bette off the hook but kept at her to get the whole story which is one that is so true. I puts in prespective the way that Bette approached fitting in and how she came to the decision to be herself. Thanks so much for the charming B&T
