    The Roommates – Pride & Prejudice: Chapter 3

    The Roommates – Pride & Prejudice: Chapter 3
    Previously
    Janice studied her daughter a little more and she said softly, “You miss her already, don’t you?”

    Bette’s sore spirit was both comforted and embarrassed at the transparency of her emotions. She didn’t want her longing to be so obvious, but she was also grateful that her mother understood Tina’s importance. Grateful that someone understood Tina’s importance. Bette’s dark brown eyes looked away and her vision grew blurry behind a wall of unshed tears.

    She nodded in response to her mother’s question.

    Janice’s hand found itself making gentle circles against her daughter’s back. “It’s okay to miss someone you love, Bette. I’m sure she already misses you, too.”

    * * *

    Tina wondered how her grandparents and long-time members of the church would react if they could read her heart. If they could look into her soul and see the seed of Bette Porter planted firmly in place. If they could look into her eyes and see the nights she’d spent wrapped in warm bronzed arms and nestled tightly against her lover’s soft skin.

    Would they smile broadly and give the gentle “hello” waves they casually tossed backward toward her during the service? Or would they sit tight-lipped and seethe with uncertainty when she was present?

    As she looked up at the tall stained glass windows and the depictions of sacrificial saints, she wondered what God thought of her Sapphic loving heart.

    The Roommates – Pride & Prejudice: Chapter 3
    Bette spent the rest of her Sunday touring the city with her mother and her mother’s chauffer, Richard. They enjoyed each other’s presence and found that the more time they spent together, the more comfortable they were in each other’s presence. When Janice got an emergency call that she was needed on an important “Save the Sale” call at the office, Bette suddenly found herself waving good-bye to her mother as Janice rushed from her black limousine into a swanky office building.

    Janice had insisted that they continue on their tour of the city. She wanted Bette to take in as much as she could in as little time as possible.

    Richard was still holding the back door open and as he prepared to close it, Bette met his crisp blue eyes and asked, “Is there any reason why I can’t ride up front with you? Do I really have to sit back here by myself?”

    3. Hey MTS, Thanks for another great update. I hope Tina takes Bette’s advice and tries to enjoy her time at home instead of sitting around sulking. I’ve only seen Laurel Holloman in Angel (the tv series) and it was such a different vibe than Tina, but she still rocked the role. PPS!

    4. Geez I thought they were gonna be apart ‘all’ summer not just a week…or is it longer? The way T’s feeling a week equals forever. Love your story as always. Thx.

    5. Hello MTS, Wonderful to have another fine and fabulous chapter from you. I just love how Bette and Tina’s worlds are opening up. Yes, they belong together and each know this but it doesn’t mean that they can’t experience the rest of the world. Bette need’s time to get to know her mother and her life. Good to see that Bette has an ally in Richard. I am sure he can guide her through the ups and downs of the NYC gay scene. And Tina does need to chill out and be herself around her Mom and Dad. There is a sense taht they both love and cherish her. OK being gay might be a shock to them and not the type of information they want broadcast around town but it is who Tina is. I do hope that if they find out then they remember that Tina is their child and deserves their love not matter who she loves. Just so heartfelt and emotional. I love every word. I jst can’t wait to read more of this delicious drama. Thank you so much for continuing this journey with Baby Bette and Tina. Your Loyal Fan.
