The Roommates – Pride & Prejudice: Chapter 3
When they arrived home, Janice and Bette parted ways. The older Porter went into her Bedroom/Office, checked her calendar for Monday and prepared both her wardrobe and mind. Bette closed the door to her room, kicked off her shoes and nearly raced to the phone to call Tina.
Across the country, in her bedroom on the second floor of her childhood home, Tina Kennard picked up the phone and smiled harder than a sugar addict in a candy store.
“Hey you,” said Tina.
Bette grinned and her insides warmed at hearing her girlfriend’s soothing timbre. “Hey T. I miss you so much.”
“I miss you too. How was your day?”
“Oh, it was great, T. I spent the day seeing the city with my mom. I made a new friend already.”
“Really?” asked Tina.
“Yeah. His name is Richard. He’s actually my mother’s chauffer, but he’s not that much older than us. He’s going to take me around and show me the city.”
“Your mother has a chauffer?” asked Tina.
“Yes. And her apartment is super-chic and very well decorated. I’m surprised with something new nearly every time we talk. I miss you like crazy, T…..but I am happy that I’m here. Just wish you were here with me.”
Tina sighed. “I wish I were there with you, too.”
“How are things in San Fran?” asked Bette.
“I don’t know, Babe. It’s hard for me. It’s hard being away from you. I’m like a home-sick puppy and my mom’s kinda pissed because I don’t want to do anything with her. I just want to hang out in my room and think.”
Bette’s brow furrowed. “Think about what, T?”
“Think about you.”
The dark-haired woman sighed, “I’m always thinking of you, T. Always. But please, don’t be such a party-pooper with your family. You’re only there for a week. Try to enjoy them.”
Tina nodded. “I know. My dad already talked to me about it. We’re getting ready to go running together in a little while. I’m going to try. It’s just hard.”
“I know it’s hard, Sweetie. I know. I’m lucky my mom knows and understands. She called me out at the airport. I looked so sad and lonesome. She knew I was missing you. It was so obvious.”
Tina smiled. Part of her heart was sad that Bette had been sad. But the larger part was happy that she was so important to Bette.
“It was obvious, huh?” Tina asked.
“Yes it was. You’re written all over me, T.”
Tina swallowed thickly and lowered her voice as she asked, “Was that supposed to be sensual?”
“No, but it can be if you want it to be.”
Tina prepared to speak again when she heard a gentle knock on the door. “Tina, you ready?” asked her father.
“Be right there, Dad,” she replied.
Tina pulled the phone closer to her mouth and said, “That was my dad, I gotta run. But remember I love you and I’m missing you.”
“I love you more. I’ll wait to hear from you later,” Bette replied.
“Okay. Love you. Bye.”
Bette responded in kind and in moments their call disconnected.

that was fun. thx
Hey MTS, Thanks for another great update. I hope Tina takes Bette’s advice and tries to enjoy her time at home instead of sitting around sulking. I’ve only seen Laurel Holloman in Angel (the tv series) and it was such a different vibe than Tina, but she still rocked the role. PPS!
Geez I thought they were gonna be apart ‘all’ summer not just a week…or is it longer? The way T’s feeling a week equals forever. Love your story as always. Thx.
Hello MTS, Wonderful to have another fine and fabulous chapter from you. I just love how Bette and Tina’s worlds are opening up. Yes, they belong together and each know this but it doesn’t mean that they can’t experience the rest of the world. Bette need’s time to get to know her mother and her life. Good to see that Bette has an ally in Richard. I am sure he can guide her through the ups and downs of the NYC gay scene. And Tina does need to chill out and be herself around her Mom and Dad. There is a sense taht they both love and cherish her. OK being gay might be a shock to them and not the type of information they want broadcast around town but it is who Tina is. I do hope that if they find out then they remember that Tina is their child and deserves their love not matter who she loves. Just so heartfelt and emotional. I love every word. I jst can’t wait to read more of this delicious drama. Thank you so much for continuing this journey with Baby Bette and Tina. Your Loyal Fan.
Aww, our girls are missing each other. Wish Tina will enjoy herself though. PPS

i wonder if tina’s family will find out about her and bette in the week that tina’s stays with them and if they will, what will be their reaction…thanks for update
This story is so wonderfully written. The dynamics between Tina and Bette and their Moms are spot on to the situations you’ve laid out. I look forward to reading more and finding out if Tina comes out to her family.
Two words…Text messages :)
