Just The Girl – Chapter Fifty Five and Epilogue (a HYD-inspired fic)

CHAPTER FIFTY FIVE: If You Leave, Don’t Look Back

    Previously..

    Tina stirred.

Somewhere outside, she could hear the sound of an engine purring. Of a car door closing. But she paid them no mind. Those were just normal sounds from the street.

She succumbed back to a state of near sleep, allowing herself to regain lost strength. Her body ached all over, her muscles spasming due to the intense workout of the past night. Instinctively, she put an arm out to the other side of the bed. She frowned when she hit pillows instead of a warm body. Where’s-

“Porter?” She sat up, rubbing her eyes free from sleep. Oh no, had she overslept again? “Por-” She stopped.

Her lips curved into a smile when she saw a single sunflower on the empty pillow beside her. Bette, she thought fondly. Right beside the flower lay a black rectangular box and a folded piece of paper. Gingerly, she took the flower in her hands and brought it to her nose, inhaling its scent. She closed her eyes, remembering that lazy afternoon in the apartment when Bette told her all about flowers and the meanings behind them. In true Porter fashion, she gave her a pop quiz afterwards – and every right answer earned her a very pleasurable reward. Sunflowers, if she recalled correctly, were given to signify adoration. Opening her eyes, she discovered that she was right.

To the woman whose body I would never tire of worshiping. Were the words written at the back of the letter in Bette’s neat script.

She was about to reach for it when something caught her eye.

    Eternity.

It was written in a simple script on the edge of the black box. The writing seemed familiar. She couldn’t remember when or where, but she had the strangest feeling that she saw it before.

Driven by curiosity, she took hold of it first. Opening the box slowly, she gasped at the surprise that lay inside. It was a necklace. A silver heart-shaped pendant in a small delicate chain. The heart sparkled as she took it out of the box and examined it – rays from the sun that had entered the room through the parted curtain bounced off the many tiny diamonds that adorned the pendant.

    1. Al,You have to be my favorite writer! You are so talented and gifted with words! Every chapter that I have read has made me laugh(hysterically at times)and cry (sobbing at some points) and actually feeling the heartbreak between those two! Tina running after a plane? OMG … Yes I am sorry to see you leave us for a bit but I hope You are planning the sequel!! Thank You for this wonderful Journey and I for one will be waiting for your name to pop up on my “favorite authors” list. Take Care! :)
