Love in Control – Chapter II – Savannah (Part 2)

New York, late afternoon of the next day

“TJ! Slow down!! TJ!! Slow! Down! Slow! Down!!”

What a time for Christie to get sick! With Bette away, everything going wrong in that big production, and the kids clamoring to get outside, the odds are not on my side that things will work out today! Tina blew out an exasperated breath; as she tracked TJ’s progress down the footpath, she grew panicked and annoyed at the same time. He is moving so fast! Despite looking back once to smile at his mom, he was going full speed because his objective, the teepee-shaped mass of climbing ropes in the further end of the playground, was now well-within tantalizing reach. Spurred by the sight of it, his little body wove with innate agility through pedestrian traffic on the footpath.  Tina drew a sharp breath in when it looked like he was about to bowl over a couple of toddlers but he somehow sidestepped in time to barely miss them. Their nannies continued to chat obliviously.

Tina groaned helplessly and glanced down at the curly top of Angie, and then looked up again to get a fix on her adventurous son. She realized she probably had mere seconds to get to him before he got to the opening in the low slung barrier that would give him access to the teepee-shaped climbing ropes looming up ahead.

“Angie, we gotta run after TJ, honey,” she said urgently. There was no way she was going to make it in time. She tugged on Angie’s hand quickly before dropping it, to avoid pulling on her arm too strongly, and broke into a jog. She trusted Angie to follow behind – she’d always been a good girl, and had done all that was asked of her during “TJ emergencies.”   But Tina was a little ticked off with herself, too. Of course you had to wear these wedge heels, Tina. To a playground! What were you thinking?

“But mommy, our ice cream cones…”

“I know, baby…but we gotta run …” she broke off. “TJ! Don’t climb that thing ‘til we get there!   Do not … climb … TJ!!”

Awww c’mon! I’ve been waiting for this ice cream all day! And TJ is going to ruin it! Angie slowed down, weighing her desire for the ice cream on the one hand, and hustling after her mom, as instructed, on the other hand.   Maybe I can have both? She stopped altogether, sucked as much air into her lungs as she could take in, and then, just like the pretty, ultra-cool cheerleaders in school had taught her and her friends, she bellowed with a voice that started from her diaphragm. “THOMAS!!! FREEZE YOUR BODY!!!”

    1. So pleased to read your story!

I don’t care that it isn’t a traditional Bette and Tina story line, but i wouldn’t mind if you give them more time in it ;-)

That was such a heart warming talk between Jade and Rian’s mom.

      Thanks for the update!

    2. It was a little early for my Pinot Noir, but well worth it, as it perfectly paired with your story. In fact, all of your stories are a full-spectrum sensory experience for me. Like a good glass of wine, I get lost in the color, bathe in the aroma, and relish the taste and texture of your scenes. Your give your protagonist characters a rich personality that I can’t help but instantly root for. While Bette and Tina initially drew me this this site and your stories, I really enjoy your other characters just as much.

Aerin virtually stole the words out of my mouth. If I had a professor like Rian during my undergraduate years, perhaps I would have gotten better than a C+ in my Art History class. I may have even been persuaded to change majors with such impassioned lectures.

As I was reading the dialogue between Jade and Rian’s mom, I was thinking that’s the type of mom I wish we had and we all would become. Well done.

    3. I normally am only interested in Bette and Tina stories, but not with this one im loving all your characters , and story lines, i can”t wait to read more. Thank you

      • Thanks for all your comments don70! Am glad you and others enjoy reading about these characters and am happy you find the different storylines they inhabit interesting. Please do continue to let me know your thoughts as this story progresses – based on actual places and people – as we explore what it means to love, and be stripped bare even if fully-clothed, before another.

    4. Genuine art has the power to strengthen the spirit of the people.
I loved Rian lecture, I applaud the end of the lecture.
And please do not let Tina looks at this Kaci, from what I read,
      I realized, it will happen.
      The complete constellation.
