DCL 4 – The First Of The Pretty Birds
Gotham City.
The announcer voiceover proudly proclaims the dominance of its channel over all other news channels. It is called Apex News and is part of the Apex Broadcasting Network. Based out of Gotham City, it boasts not only higher ratings than its rival networks, it also boasts one of the bigger names in cable news. Her name is Irene Miller. The policy of both the channel and Irene herself is that it is all in the presentation.
The camera and lighting focus on Irene’s crossed legs as the segment begins. Seated at an angle across from her are two other women, both keeping with a similar fashion. Soon, the focus shifts to Irene’s face as she addresses the viewing audience.
Irene “You’re watching Apex News Primetime, I’m Irene Miller. ‘Costumed adventurers.’ It is a term that has been gaining a lot of traction as of late since the sighting of the mysterious ‘Superwoman’ of Metropolis. Joining us in the studio is the woman who coined the name ‘Superwoman’ to describe this still mysterious figure, from The Daily Planet, Lois Lane. Also joining us from the Gotham Gazette is Vicki Vale. Ladies, good evening.”
Lois “Good evening.”
Vicki nods.
Irene “Lois, let me start with you. You were there for the first official sighting of Superwoman. How do you describe the effect she has had on Metropolis?”
Lois “First off, I don’t think it’s just Metropolis anymore. It’s everywhere, including here in Gotham. We still don’t know much about Superwoman unfortunately, including what actual name she prefers.”
Irene “Well, what we have seen so far is that she can fly, has been said to have super strength and has taken on a legendary status in such a short time.”
Lois “She’s becoming a phenomenon. I have tried to reach out to her, but so far have been unable. Whoever she is, she keeps away from the public most of the time.”
Irene “There have been the sightings, which continue to be reported.”
Lois “Yes. The problem is distinguishing between the factual sightings and the fictional ones.”
Irene “Now…when this ‘Superwoman’ as you call her first arrived publicly, it was to save a young lady from committing suicide, yes?”
Lois “Yes. The woman in question is an employee of LexCorp and neither Lex Luthor or the Metropolis Police Department have released her identity to the public. It has been confirmed by Mister Luthor himself that she is still employed and is receiving psychiatric help.”
