DCL 4 – The First Of The Pretty Birds

Lois “There is no rivalry.  Gotham City wants to be like Metropolis.  We have this…heroine…this super heroine appear on the scene and now Gotham wants to let everybody know that they have them, too.  How convenient.”

Vicki “It’s not convenient, Miss Lane.  If Superwoman is such a super heroine as you put it, why does she keep herself confined to Metropolis?  Why isn’t she in Gotham helping out?  Can you answer that?”

Lois “I don’t speak on behalf of Superwoman.”

Vicki “No, you just name her like property.”

Lois “Whatever you say, Miss Caped Crusader.”

Irene “And on that note…Lois Lane, Vicki Vale, I thank you both for being here tonight.”

The attention is turned away from Lois and Vicki who offer a cold stare towards one another and it is now focused squarely on Irene, with a camera backing away and lowering.

Irene “Coming up on Apex News Primetime, the freak lightning storms near Chicago have some people worried as well as claiming a flying costumed adventurer of their own.  Also, Ivy Town has a police chief and she’s like no other.  They call her the ‘Lady Cop.’  Her real name is Liza Warner and we’ll have more on how she became the darling of Southeastern Connecticut.  That’s later tonight on Apex News Primetime.”

With the interview having finished, Lois and Vicki are able to have their microphones removed as they adjourn to separate green rooms, refusing to be in the same room any longer than necessary.  The two have a rivalry and it is more than just professional or personal, it is also pride in their respective hometowns.

While Lois is off to the airport to fly back to Metropolis, Vicki stands in the parking lot for a moment.  She hears the police sirens.  She hears the ambulance sirens.  It is the same sound every night.  She sees an ambulance speed by in the night, presumably on its way to the suburb of Bludhaven, which is infamous for being violent, even by Gotham City standards.  She breathes a sigh and shakes her head.  Maybe Lois Lane has a point about the differences between the two cities.  Maybe Metropolis is the beacon of light for the Eastern Seaboard while Gotham is its polar opposite.  Still, Vicki would not trade it.  Even with its danger.  A danger that is about to face her as she approaches her car.

She emerges from the shadows with blonde hair, a red, flowing headband, black sunglasses, and a striped yellow and black dress with a slit up the left leg.  She has a smirk and she is looking straight at Vicki.

Tigress “So…I hear you’ve been talking about me.”

Vicki gasps, realizing who she is now face to face with only for her mouth to suddenly be covered.  She feels an arm wrap around her waist and a white cloth press against her mouth.  As she struggles, she sees Tigress smiling at her.  Maybe these Caped Crusaders she has mentioned are real.  She knows for a fact that the Tigress is.  It is a realization she faces just before blacking out.  Her body is limp and is placed over the shoulder of the brute that has captured her as Tigress continues smiling.

Tigress “That’s one of the pretty birds.  The client will be pleased.”
