    Nobis Pacem Chapter 6

I guess my attempt to hide my surprise didn’t work, because Annie piled it on, “Everyone wanted to date her, Aerin. And once she was through with them, the rest of us got her sloppy seconds.”

“That’s harsh Annie,” Katy cut in. “Not Harley’s fault that the guys were so attracted to her.”

That didn’t help. “Awww, shut it Katy. Harley’s always been the one who did everything right, got the cutest boys, and was everyone’s favorite…”

I frowned as I looked at Annie. My disquiet about her grew by leaps and bounds.

“C’mon Annie … you’re the one who won the brass ring, here,” Harley responded, with a calm voice. “Marrying the person you love, and who loves you …”

Before Annie could interrupt her, Katy jumped in, “Yeah, Annie. We’re all so happy for you and Thad, you know, now that you’ve both decided to do this.”

Annie shrugged, and then turned to Helena, “As I was saying, I think getting our rocks off in a lezzie bar would be much cooler than slipping a couple of dollars into some guy’s underwear, right?”

“Would it be ok to show up with a posse of straight, blonde, surfer babe-types in your club?” she asked with laugh.

Shane’s mouth formed a perfectly shaped O, before she asked, winking at Harley, “Do they all look like Harley? Because if they did …”

Harley pretended to half-cover her face with her hands and laughed, as if to wave to dismiss my friend’s attempt at flirting. And then Harley dropped her hands and winked back at Shane, to acknowledge that she knew they were back to the pretend flirting Shane had engaged in with her in the café in WeHo yesterday.

Katy’s mouth grew slack again as she watched the quick exchange between Shane and Harley. “Is that how it’s done in that scene?” she blurted out, and then covered her mouth. And then she looked apologetically at me. You ok with all that? she mouthed. I grinned at her and shook my head.

Annie snorted, and set her glass of ice water down. “You’re kidding right? No one in the posse comes close to Harley. You know many flesh-and-bone women who do?”

Helena observed Annie over the rim of her glass with narrowing eyes, and we exchanged a quick, acknowledging glance.

    1. wow! Did not see that coming. Aerin cannot make that decision alone. Must communicate with Harley. They can always move back East and be under the “protection” of the other girls.

    2. Hi, yes, hoping to fix this. A bit tricky. Plus, wasn’t happy with the structure of what I drafted so thought I should take a step back first, clear the muck in my mind out, etc. and start with a clean screen. It will be the last chapter and I have to get through a lot, so want to be sure it not only concludes the story well, but flows, too. Thanks for reading. Do let me know what you think about the story, after. ????
