Nobis Pacem Chapter 1
I slowly shook my head. “I’m really sorry, but I’m still feeling slightly under the weather.”
Diane bit her lip, and crossed her arms. She was eyeing me anxiously.
Jules paced restlessly in circles behind the sofa. She’d always been the more emotional between the two, and I could see that the emotions playing on her face tonight were of impatience and concern. “Have there been any issues with the lawyers?” she asked, all of a sudden.
I looked at her curiously. “No.”
“So …. how about any long-lost relatives that you haven’t told us about? Anyone giving you any problems?” Jules continued. I looked at her as she quick-walked around the sofa and plopped down on it. Diane leaned over the back of the sofa, and absentmindedly began massaging her shoulders. She dropped a kiss from time to time on top of my friend’s auburn hair. I smiled at them, and in my mind’s eye, imagined a similar scene playing out between me and Chris. Would we ever get there?
“No. I wish I had long-lost relatives, but, alas, I don’t think I do,” I answered Jules. “I’m alone in the world.”
“You’re not alone, Aerin,” Diane said quickly.
I nodded and pursed my lips. “Of course, I’m sorry that was thoughtless of me.”
“I meant apart from my friends, especially dear ones, like you both.”
Suddenly, Jules hopped out of the couch, walked around the coffee table, and sat beside me on the floor. She extended her arm over the back of her head, as if reaching back for Diane, who walked around the sofa, skirted the coffee table and knelt next to Jules with a sigh.
“I’m in a pencil skirt, Jules,” she said drily as she adjusted her position to half-sit on an ass cheek while primly tucking her knees under her.
“I know kitten,” Jules answered. “But I need you here for this one.”
I looked at both of them with arched eyebrows.
“Aerin, you and I have been friends since you were a sophomore in Princeton, right? And I’d already graduated from Brown?” Jules asked.
I nodded and reminded her, “Our moms were friends, and my mom asked your mom if you could talk to me about my reluctance to acknowledge being gay.”

Bette and tina????
Here in spirit. But this is about a few special L words that play out in a couple’s life in another part of town. In the fringes of the world of the series I’ve been writing; but different. Hope you like it.
What a beautiful story! Your writing is such a treat to read as you evoke every emotion.
Will try this again. Left a message about 4:00 this morning and something happened, it’s not posted. My message was to thank you for posting such a beautiful love story. And that I hope this story will be continued we would like to know what happens to Aerin in the future. Thanks for sharing.
What an amazing story ! So glad I stumbled upon this treasure !
Sad and sweet -but you said it complete.
Dainty, Hellbent, and new friends: thanks for the comments. Honestly: was tough to pull this together, but it was worth it. Am v glad you liked it. Ok. I hear you. It may take a while for an update on her story, but it will be coming.
Well this was a pleasant surprise. I am always seeking an episode from your creativity. So much, I had to buy a smaller electronic device so that I might read your input on the go. Now, for me buying another electronic anything is saying a lot. I am one of the “dial phone” “get up and change the channel” “do not Text me and expect an answer” old school DIE HARD. But, your writing genius persuaded me to become a mobile reader at my neighborhood “coffee house.” Please continue to write
Beautiful story. I could feel Aerin’s struggle. I would love to read about the 18 months in between their first time and Chris’ final moments. I sure it would be moving.
