    Nobis Pacem Chapter 1

“And I don’t have a Diane that I’ve fallen in love with, either,” I cut in, pointing out to her another hole in her line of reasoning.

Jules and Diane smirked as they looked at me, each with one eyebrow cocked.

“What?” I asked, in a more challenging tone than I intended to use.

“Don’t have someone, huh?” Diane asked, her voice was dripping with skepticism.

I harrumphed and turned away from them, to gaze back at my beloved fireplace.

“Would you please stop retreating to that fire and look at us?” Jules asked after a few moments.

I heaved a deep sigh and let go of the fire poke, and then swiveled around to face them, looking down.

Jules pulled my chin up so that they could both look at me. She wanted me to know, before anything else, that I had no reason to shut them out, as I had tried to do to everyone else. Except Chris.

“What’s going on between you and Chris, then, honey?” Diane asked softly.

“Nothing,” I said quickly. I saw the clear concern in their eyes, though, and knew I had to come clean.

“I honestly don’t know. She’s been coming over almost every night, and spends tons of time with me over the weekend. This has been going on for over two months now, ever since … well,” I faltered.

“Ever since the day your parents died in that accident during the snow storm,” Jules picked me up from the falter. “You can say that out loud with us, Aerin.”

I nodded as I bit my lower lip, which had begun to quiver. I quickly wiped tears that had sprung to my eyes.

“Can you say that out loud with her?” Diane asked in a kind voice.

I nodded, and gave them a small smile. “I first told her about it the day after, when she came by and stayed after you’d left, remember Jules?”

    Jules nodded.

We all fell quiet. I was tempted to swivel around and gaze at the fire again, but Jules kept her hand on my chin.

And then I saw an impish look come over her. I narrowed my eyes suspiciously when I saw something devilish in the look of her eye.

      • Here in spirit. But this is about a few special L words that play out in a couple’s life in another part of town. In the fringes of the world of the series I’ve been writing; but different. Hope you like it.

    1. Will try this again. Left a message about 4:00 this morning and something happened, it’s not posted. My message was to thank you for posting such a beautiful love story. And that I hope this story will be continued we would like to know what happens to Aerin in the future. Thanks for sharing.

    2. Dainty, Hellbent, and new friends: thanks for the comments. Honestly: was tough to pull this together, but it was worth it. Am v glad you liked it. Ok. I hear you. It may take a while for an update on her story, but it will be coming.

      • Well this was a pleasant surprise. I am always seeking an episode from your creativity. So much, I had to buy a smaller electronic device so that I might read your input on the go. Now, for me buying another electronic anything is saying a lot. I am one of the “dial phone” “get up and change the channel” “do not Text me and expect an answer” old school DIE HARD. But, your writing genius persuaded me to become a mobile reader at my neighborhood “coffee house.” Please continue to write

    3. Beautiful story. I could feel Aerin’s struggle. I would love to read about the 18 months in between their first time and Chris’ final moments. I sure it would be moving.
