    Nobis Pacem Chapter 1

I gave Jules a small smile, and then prodded her, “So what did she say when she brought it up?”

Jules shrugged as she answered, “She asked if our friends would take it against you if they saw the two of you together around town as a couple.”

My eyes must have bugged out, because Jules continued quickly, “I had a similarly perplexed reaction. So I asked her if she meant to ask whether people would think you had gone completely off the rails if you began to see each other in public. I’d already acknowledged to her before that, as she’d guessed, people – not our friends – were thinking that you must be going crazy with grief about your parents, because you were reducing your commitments to things involving public events, avoided socializing with your parents’ friends, and basically assuming this Howard Hughes-like persona by shunning the rest of the world.”

Unable to hide the hurt I felt, I looked at Jules and Diane, and whispered, “Is that what people think? That I’m going crazy?”

Jules drew an arm around me again, and said in the most reassuring voice, “Don’t think about what people say, honey. You take as long as you need to heal. If you need to switch therapists, do. We’ll help you look for another one, even.”

I was still frowning. Jules added, “And why not go ahead and date a hot, older woman? Who cares what they say? She’s got oodles of sex appeal, right? Anyone with two eyes would understand if you went for her.”

Diane added, with a twinkle in her eye, “Boys your age or even younger ogle her all the time, you know. I’ve actually seen it myself.”

I nodded, but I was still mulling over what Jules had said about people thinking I was losing my mind.   Was I losing my mind?

Jules cut into my thoughts sharply. “Aerin!”

“What?!” I answered her irritated again.

“You’re not going crazy, alright? You’re grieving. And you’re falling in love. On their own, each thing can make you feel like you’re going crazy, if you were honest with yourself. But together? I know that it can be head-splitting, honey. But you are not … ARE NOT … losing your mind, okay?” Jules said urgently.

      • Here in spirit. But this is about a few special L words that play out in a couple’s life in another part of town. In the fringes of the world of the series I’ve been writing; but different. Hope you like it.

    1. Will try this again. Left a message about 4:00 this morning and something happened, it’s not posted. My message was to thank you for posting such a beautiful love story. And that I hope this story will be continued we would like to know what happens to Aerin in the future. Thanks for sharing.

    2. Dainty, Hellbent, and new friends: thanks for the comments. Honestly: was tough to pull this together, but it was worth it. Am v glad you liked it. Ok. I hear you. It may take a while for an update on her story, but it will be coming.

      • Well this was a pleasant surprise. I am always seeking an episode from your creativity. So much, I had to buy a smaller electronic device so that I might read your input on the go. Now, for me buying another electronic anything is saying a lot. I am one of the “dial phone” “get up and change the channel” “do not Text me and expect an answer” old school DIE HARD. But, your writing genius persuaded me to become a mobile reader at my neighborhood “coffee house.” Please continue to write

    3. Beautiful story. I could feel Aerin’s struggle. I would love to read about the 18 months in between their first time and Chris’ final moments. I sure it would be moving.
