    Nobis Pacem Chapter 1

My thoughts were going into hyper-drive, gathering the various terms to label my hurt feelings, and Jules could see it. She snapped her fingers in front of my eyes several times.

“Aerin! Aerin!” she called my name out sharply.

“What?!” I answered her crossly. The bullet train speeding around my head gathering labels for my hurt feelings came to a screeching halt.

“We didn’t talk to her intending to humiliate you, okay? Before you start either retreating into your bunker or firing your arsenal of hurt words at us, please listen to Diane,” Jules said clearly but unapologetically. Big sister mode again.

“You wondered if she was into women?” Diane asked.

I nodded. I already knew the answer, but –

“Well she is. Or she’s into you, at least, that much is clear,” Jules answered. “She didn’t come out and say it, but she didn’t have to. And no, she’s never had a lesbian relationship.”

“You said she’s only been out with hunky guys?” Diane asked again.

    Again, I nodded.

“She admitted that one openly,” Jules answered. “But she hasn’t been seeing anyone. She’s also told everyone who’d listen that she isn’t interested in going out with anyone, so she’s asked people to stop setting her up. She’s taken down her Twitter and Facebook, dating app accounts, and every other social media account out there because there’ve been persistent guys out there whom she’d probably flirted with in the past, but wouldn’t take no for an answer now.”

My face fell. So she doesn’t want to see anyone, huh?

Jules tapped me on the shoulder and grinned, “Not anyone, but you, of course.”

My eyebrows shot up at that. “She said that?!”

Jules and Diane looked at each other. “Not in so many words, honey,” Diane answered.

After a momentary pause, Diane continued, “And then she asked us something that told us she only has your interests at heart.”

Up until this point, I hadn’t shared with Jules or Diane what Chris and I had talked about while spending all that time together. So I wasn’t surprised by this last bit. Everything she’d shown me also told me that all she wanted was for me to be okay. Beyond that, she’d admitted she was enjoying our time together – which she was hoping was mutual. Mutual?! Can’t she tell?

      • Here in spirit. But this is about a few special L words that play out in a couple’s life in another part of town. In the fringes of the world of the series I’ve been writing; but different. Hope you like it.

    1. Will try this again. Left a message about 4:00 this morning and something happened, it’s not posted. My message was to thank you for posting such a beautiful love story. And that I hope this story will be continued we would like to know what happens to Aerin in the future. Thanks for sharing.

    2. Dainty, Hellbent, and new friends: thanks for the comments. Honestly: was tough to pull this together, but it was worth it. Am v glad you liked it. Ok. I hear you. It may take a while for an update on her story, but it will be coming.

      • Well this was a pleasant surprise. I am always seeking an episode from your creativity. So much, I had to buy a smaller electronic device so that I might read your input on the go. Now, for me buying another electronic anything is saying a lot. I am one of the “dial phone” “get up and change the channel” “do not Text me and expect an answer” old school DIE HARD. But, your writing genius persuaded me to become a mobile reader at my neighborhood “coffee house.” Please continue to write

    3. Beautiful story. I could feel Aerin’s struggle. I would love to read about the 18 months in between their first time and Chris’ final moments. I sure it would be moving.
