    Nobis Pacem Chapter 1

She kissed my shoulders softly, and licked my neck, leaving a trail of wetness wherever her mouth had been.

Finally she drew back and whispered, “I’m still crazy about you, but I have to go to my fireplace to think, ok? I can’t think when I can feel you, or smell you, or touch you. Your presence is overwhelming to me, Chris. And I need to be able to think clearly about this. You deserve it.”

I nodded mutely and my lips trembled.

“If I don’t use my keys to return to join you in bed tonight, that doesn’t mean I’ve decided not to pursue you, ok?”

I leaned back and rested my head against her shoulder. I wasn’t sure if this was going to be the last time we’d hold each other like this, filled with the feelings we’d acknowledged we held for each other, our bodies screaming for release in the other’s embrace, our hearts beating fiercely with life, love and desire, our thoughts filled with the other.

At least I had this moment to cherish. Especially when things got tough, if the recurrence of the cancer couldn’t be stopped. If nothing else, over the last two months, we both knew we’d each found the person meant by the fates that we were destined for. Not many people could make that claim. But, happily, we could.

“I want to be as sure as I can be, all things considered,” she said quietly.

“Whatever happens, I can assure you about one thing: you’re not facing this alone.”

Maybe not alone, Aerin. Just maybe not with you as a lover.

    Aerin

    How old am I?

Sometimes I forget, especially lately. I feel like I’m much older than I am.

How long will my life go on like this? Loving. And then losing. And then loving, again. And then maybe losing?

My heart felt so young and free, unbelievably, over the last two months, despite the most devastating loss I could ever imagine happening. I’d just been able to figure out that life had worked a miracle through Chris, and I was just beginning to believe what Nana once told me, something about life never giving you what you couldn’t handle.

Well, I think someone’s miscalculated things for me, lately, because I’m pretty sure I’ve been given something that I can’t handle, Nana. I don’t know if I can handle this, so soon after mom and dad. Not yet. Not now.

      • Here in spirit. But this is about a few special L words that play out in a couple’s life in another part of town. In the fringes of the world of the series I’ve been writing; but different. Hope you like it.

    1. Will try this again. Left a message about 4:00 this morning and something happened, it’s not posted. My message was to thank you for posting such a beautiful love story. And that I hope this story will be continued we would like to know what happens to Aerin in the future. Thanks for sharing.

    2. Dainty, Hellbent, and new friends: thanks for the comments. Honestly: was tough to pull this together, but it was worth it. Am v glad you liked it. Ok. I hear you. It may take a while for an update on her story, but it will be coming.

      • Well this was a pleasant surprise. I am always seeking an episode from your creativity. So much, I had to buy a smaller electronic device so that I might read your input on the go. Now, for me buying another electronic anything is saying a lot. I am one of the “dial phone” “get up and change the channel” “do not Text me and expect an answer” old school DIE HARD. But, your writing genius persuaded me to become a mobile reader at my neighborhood “coffee house.” Please continue to write

    3. Beautiful story. I could feel Aerin’s struggle. I would love to read about the 18 months in between their first time and Chris’ final moments. I sure it would be moving.
