Crossing The Streams 1 – Somewhere Out

Jillian: Government’s good at their job. Well, that part of it anyway.

    Erin: And funding us.

Jillian: They’re great at their job. Anything new on Heiss? I’ve been kinda busy.

Erin: He’s still recovering. And I’m happy to say he’s a firm believer now. He’s penning the foreword to our revised edition of Ghosts From The Past.

Jillian: Maybe we should just have a random evil spirit demon toss more peeps out a window.

    Erin: What?

Jillian: I’m kidding. Erin, seriously I’m kidding!

    Erin grins.

Erin: I know. I’m still getting used to your sense of humor.

Jillian: Your hand’s still on me, by the way.

Erin looks over at her left hand, still resting comfortably against Jillian’s right shoulderblade. The realization along with Jillian pointing it out startles her hand away.

Erin: Oh! Oh no, I’m sorry I didn’t mean to make you feel uncomfortable!

Jillian’s smile is both coy and comforting in its own right.

Jillian: It’s cool. I just loved mentioning it to see if you’d jump. You jump way too easily for someone who’s dealt with things we’ve faced.

    Erin: Yeah. Sorry, reflex.

Jillian: Take a deep breath. Exhale… You should be okay.

Erin follows along with the instructions while waving her fingers about in an effort to loosen up.

Jillian: And that. It’s like you’re staring at Kev, man. I thought you were over that.

Erin: What? Kevin? Oh. Yes. Definitely over. I guess he just… I don’t know, he just sorta stood out from the other men I was used to seeing at Columbia.

Jillian faces Erin, her arms still crossed and now leaning against the wall.

    Jillian: I gotta ask.

    Erin: Okay?

Jillian: Columbia. Not getting the tenure. …You’re not still mad about that are you?

Erin looks away from Jillian, admiring the skyline once again.
Erin: I was at first. I’ve dedicated my life to science and I wasn’t sure what was going to happen to me after I got fired. But things have worked out. I’m proud of being a “ghost girl.” I’m involved in an operation where I’ve been able to help save the world. I got my best friend, Abby back. I got a new friend in Patty.

Erin stops and smiles, looking back at Jillian.
