“She walked out this time. It’s been over a month and I haven’t heard from her again. It seems pretty clear she’s not interested, so I have no reason to call her.”
“Hey it’s your choice. Maybe a clean break would be better anyway. But you definitely need to put the past behind you.” I just stare at her and I watch as her face lights up with a big smile. “You should give Sara a call!” I look at her like she has twenty heads.
“Why would Sara ever want to talk to me again?”
“Who knows? It couldn’t hurt to try. And think about it, have I ever steered you wrong? It’s usually when you don’t listen to me that gets you in trouble.”
“You’ve got a point. I’ll call her tomorrow.”
“Oh hell no! I’m only here for a couple days and I already wasted one of them making sure you hadn’t drank yourself to death. You have to give me your undivided attention until I leave. A couple more days won’t kill her.” I am embarrassed for the way I acted, but I have to laugh at her childlike need for attention.
“You got it.” I look around at the diner and notice that it has filled up quite a bit. Glancing at my watch, I see that nearly three hours have passed and it is closing in on the dinner hour. “You want to get out of here? We have been sitting here so long it is almost time for another meal.” She looks around also then turns back to me leaning in across the table and speaking in a hushed tone.
“Dude. Where did all these old people come from? I didn’t think the waitress took that long.” I roll my eyes at her and let out a disapproving sigh.
“You’re unbelievable.” I chuckle as I grab the check and slide out of the booth. She begins sliding with me as she tries to make her case.
“Seriously, why are we the only ones under sixty right now?” She follows me up to the cashier and I pay the bill.
“We have been here so long that you actually are sixty now! And by the way you didn’t age very well.” She lets out a very fake and sarcastic laugh.
“You’re soooo funny! Ha!…Ha!…Ha!”
As we stroll to my car a sense of peace washes over me for the first time in almost two months. I know I have not completely processed my situation with Spencer, but I feel a certain calmness inside that I had been missing. Upon entering the car, I stare silently ahead for a moment before turning to Danielle.
“I’m not sure what would’ve happened to me if you hadn’t come here.”
“Just consider yourself lucky that I have the most annoying boyfriend in the world.” I try not to laugh, but I can’t help it.
“Do you two even like each other?”
“NO! And if I had to listen to him talk about his precious car for one more second, you would not have been the only one drinking yourself into an early grave.”
“Well whatever the reason, thanks.”
“You’re welcome.”
We debate possible options for entertaining ourselves for the rest of the night. After several scraped ideas, we opt for a quiet night in with movies and take out. Given the emotionally exhausting nature of the day, we both fall asleep on my couch before the second movie ends.

Great update, caseygurl! I love Danielle. She is such a good friend. I’m so glad she was there to pull Ashley out of her funk. Ashley really needs someone like her right now. Thanks for the update — I loved it. Looking forward to the next. :)

love the fact that dani is making ashley feel better but god damn it i still need spashley to get it on. when will that be?I love your writting so much (dont take any notice of my pleas, I am secretly loving the way you are drawing it out and not giving us what we want…….I think)Please post again soon!
Now I truly don’t mind the clif hangers, as long as you update the next day….but waiting 3 days was killing me! I am hoping that once Ashley checks her messages, she will have one for Spencer (pretty please)…they can’t go from best friends to nothing :-( I know you will make it interesting :-)
i’m so glad that ashley didn’t drink herself to death…good thing that you lighten the atmosphere with dani XD…*sigh*…it’s depressing that ash haven’t heard anything from spencer…what is she ? a robot ??? c’mon spence…show some feelings !!! lol… really impatient for your next post =)
You know this is really good. Ashely has now found peace and calmness in her situation with Spencer, even though it may not be perfect and fixed, she can move on and function okay! haha. And do you know why we want Ashley completely funtionable…so when Spencer comes back!! haha…I’m still waiting…we all are!!
Whe Ashely is settled, Spencer will come-a crawling back. I’d take her that way too…cheers mate

Danielle rocks… she needs to dump that boyfriend of hers and join us on the ‘dark side’… seriously! Ashley’s drinking is okay… so that’s the key to weight loss, eh? Tequila it is then! I have no issues with Ashley wallowing for a while, I wallowed for a year, then spent another year rebuilding the friendship and now… well, I reckon I’m back to wallowing.. a bit. Enough about me… Ash needs to put herself into drive and just live for a while.. no thinking, no remembering, just functioning.. that’ll get her through the time until bonehead.. err.. Spencer decides that she’s had enough time experimenting with Jess and comes back to her. I mean, Ash and Spence can’t settle down until they’ve lived a little longer, got jobs, grown up a bit more.. Now I’ve completely lost my train of thought. I LOVE this story… and I anxiously await the next installment.

Man I’m almost ashamed to admit that I’ve been waiting all weekend for this update, almost, except for the fact that by now you are pretty aware I have no life, and I live for fanfic. After that sentence I feel the necessity to explain that I did not literally wait for your update, I mean just half of my time, I actually have sort of a life in the form of stupid friends who manage to tear me apart of this site for a few hours (They really don’t understand the thrill of seeing a new update from your story). Now that I managed to creep you out I just wanted to say that this was once again a great update. And I also enjoy your author’s comment as much as your story, well not really, I mean your author’s comments rock but they would be pointless withouth the story.

Ok, feel free to shoot me because I’m one of those silent readers FINALLY coming out of hiding! First lemme say: You are doing such a good job with this fanfic. It’s my “current” on this website only bc dreiser (TLW) doesnt write SON. Please post again soon …but please don’t take so long. I kept checking like everyday (mweh!) Props to you for having so much patience drawing it out this long …quite the tease there, casey. Let’s hope the Spashley happy meal is just as good as the appetizer :o)
ok so i know i havent been around as much as usual…im getting ready for a huge trip to NY this comming week with school (BORING) lol, i mean come on…why would i rather do that then read your stories…any way, this chapter…and the last one! omg….im telling you that you’re going to be the death and revival of me someday!!!! its like to put me into cardiac arrest at the beginning and then bring me back just to torture me for more!…lol, i do have to say that i love dani, and shes an awsome friend…and i cannot wait til ash and spence finally realize what they really want and need…lol…but yea, you know that i loved it….duH! so gimmie more…im leaving in a few days and im not gonna have access to a computer for at least a week, and i kno you love my comments ; )
