“Yeah, why’s that?” Ashley asked, sucking in all of her emotions for the moment.

Spencer put the cap back on the bottle and put it into the fridge. She leaped) onto the counter top and sat dangling her legs as she took a small sip of her juice. “Because, you will be at school with me again. School has been so super boring since you left.” Spencer finished her statement.

Ashley sighed and turned slowly facing Spencer. It was dark in the kitchen and the only light was coming through the small window just barely glowing onto Ashley’s features. “I’m gonna- Um, just go to bed now. Good Night.” Ashley began walking away. She had been doing that a lot tonight. Walking away from her feelings, and even Spencer. She didn’t feel like dealing with anyone tonight.

Spencer jumped off the counter top, her feet hitting the cold linoleum. “Ash, wait!” Spencer said stopping Ashley in her tracks to the door. “What’s going on and why won’t you talk to me about it?”   

Ashley relaxed her muscles and she slumped a bit as she crossed her arms over her chest. She had a fear that if she took her arms away from her chest, her heart would fall out on the floor and she would be as heartless as she felt. “I just can’t talk to you about this, Spencer. I don’t know why, so don’t ask.” Ashley admitted.

Spencer didn’t like the answer but knew she had to take what she was given and be happy about it. She made her way over to Ashley so that they were a bit closer. “Well can you please try? I want to help you Ashley. I really do.” Spencer pleaded for a better response. She felt like Ashley was 20 miles out in the ocean water being drifted further and further away from her. Ashley was drowning, and Spencer couldn’t bring herself to just stand by and watch.

“I just-“She stopped herself. She didn’t want to say the wrong thing to Spencer. She took a breath and started over. “I’m just a little upset that’s all. I mean, you’re going to be graduating high school next year along with Amanda, Madison, and Aiden and I don’t even get the chance.”
