I drove to the pier and then I heard Spencer behind me

“you weren’t at your house…I figured you’d be here…” she said and I turned around

“uh yeah…” I said simply

“what’s going on?” she asked

“look Spencer…I can’t do this…” I said pointing between the two of us

“what about this?” she asked

“the friendship thing…I can’t hurt Brooke, Spencer…I don’t need closure or anything, and the past two years would have been hell if it weren’t for Brooke. Spencer I can’t picture my life without her, but I can picture it without you…” I told her “…and I know that sounds harsh, but you put yourself in that position…I mean you left Spencer, and nothing you say or do is every gonna change that…” I added

“so…that’s it? We’re done? You just never want to see me again Ashley?” she asked and I hated when she asked those questions in that Spencer voice, the cute one you always had to listen to and give an honest answer to

“Spencer I don’t know…when we broke up I figured if we were meant to be together then fate would bring us back together, but it didn’t…” I told her

“I’m not saying we need to get back together…” she said then I couldn’t take it anymore

“look…three years ago this was for you…” I said handing her the black box “…I thought you were the girl Spencer, but I guess I thought wrong…” I added starting to walk away

When I got into my car I had to drive and go pick Brooke up at work…she worked in public relations with like promoting parties and events in Hollywood…
